Home-Coming of
School Girls Will
Open a New
Season
THE latter part of May and the!
month of June are largely de- ,
voted by the social world to par- I
ties for the younger contingent. The
girls and boys, freed from the year’s
work in school, are eager for the long
denied pleasures of dancing parties and
other forms of social recreation. Many
of the very .young set are given pretty
parties by their parents, and at these |
fun and frolic reign supreme, and the |
. I
dainties which follow the amusements
of the occasion are of more impor- .
tance to the young guests than the cos
tumes or the decorations.
For the older girls and boys, nunter- |
ous informal dances are given, many
of the ? e attended by the parents and
older friends of thi- young guests, who.
in the guise of chaperons, get as much
pleasure from the affairs as do the
youthful members of the company.
Among the Atlanta girls expected I
home from various colleges in the next ;
f ew weeks are a number of the future}
debutantes and belles .of the social i
world.
Miss Helen Dargan, the pretty young ;
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Dar- '
gan and one of the most popular giilb ;
of her age in Atlanta, will graduate in j
June from Miss Finch’s school, in New i
York. Mr. and Mrs. Dargan leave next
week for New York, and Miss Dargan
will accompany them on their- return .
Miss Margaret Grant is expected
from St. Tiniothys, near Baltimore, on
June S. Miss Grant is the eldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W.
Grant. She was Entertained at a bril
liant dancing party at the (Capital City
club during hei Easter vacation, and
while she will not entertain formally
during the summer, 'ter coming will I
add to the informal social pleasures of!
het friends. Mi.-s Grant will not come;
out for some time yet. hut her social |
success is assured when she is intro- I
dueed. She is unusually pretty, with |
the same perfect blonde type of her
beautiful mother.
Miss Eula Jackson is an interest
ing school girl who returns soon from '
the < ’ as ti ? Miss Mason's school on j
•he. Hudson. Miss Jackson is the love-;
! young daughter of Mr. and Mr-.,
Henr> Jackson. Another Atlanta girl
at the Castle i.e Miss Josephine Mob- I
, who returns soon after the close of i
the institution, early in June.
Miss Mary Brown, the young daugh- !
ter of Mr.’and Mrs, George M Brown, I
returns in June from Walnut Hill. .

members of this years giaduating |
class at Smith college.
Miss Isabelle Robinson is an unusual- |
1y pretty and popular school girl, whose |
coming is anticipated by her many!
friends. She is at school at Notre i
Dame, in Baltimore. Miss Robinson
and her pretty little sister. Eloise Rob- j
inson. are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. j
Roby Robinson and are both extremely
popular in the younger sei
Miss Dorothy Harman, who has spent
the winter studying at Fraulein
Klatte’s school in Berlin will be joined
next wee k by her sister. Miss Mildred
Harman, who has been abroad since
January with Miss Belle Johngton’s
party. Miss Mildred Harman and Miss
Dorothy Harman will sail for home
with a number of young American
girls who have studied at Fraulein
Klatte’s school on June 13. and will
spend the summer with their parents.
Mr and Mrs. Harry Harman, at Eas’
Lake.
Miss Katherine Ellis is a future de
butante for whom much brilliant en
tertaining will be done. She has been
abroad for a year or so. and will spend
the summer touring Europe with her
mother and sister, Mrs. Frank Ellis and
Mis® Francis Ellis. A party of kins
people will accompany the Atlantans
Miss Ellis will probably return in the
fall and make her debut next winter
though plans for this are not detlnitelv

Miss Mary Hines returned Saturda'
from Chevy Chase, after a stopover at
the Greenville Horse show. Miss Mar
ion Vaughan, the younger sister of
Miss Cubbie Vaughan, has returned
from the Sacred Heart academy- at
Manhattanville, N. V
Miss Virginia Lipscomb and Miss Ad-
gate Ellis, two popular cousins, will
add to the pleasure of approaching

home soon from Shorter college, and
Miss Van Spalding has returned from
Shorter and -is with her aunt. Mrs.

Several of the debutantes of the past
winter whose memory of college days
and college friends is still green are
now attending the commencements of
their alma maters. Miss Bessie Jones
is in Washington. D. C., for the Na
tional Park seminary commencement,
and Miss Helen Jones is attending a
class reunion in Washington.

i Mrs. Hughes Spalding. This affait
i lakes place on Thursday, May 30. and
will be a notable event of the week.
A beautiful party of this week, which
has been marked by much entertaining
for visitors and for brides-elect. was
the buffet supper and dance of last
evening at which Mr. and Mrs. Burton
Smith and their young daughter. Miss
Hildreth Burton Smith entertained.
Their residence in Ansley Park, which
I has been closed during a year’s stay
•abroad of Mrs. Burton Smith and her
young daughter, was converted into a
• veritable Japanese garden for this par
! ty. The porch was festooned with ropes
of wistaria, daisy chains and Japanese
■ lanterns. Indoors, long sprays of crim-
, son rambler roses made a floral bower
|of each apartment. Most elaborate and
beautiful were the decorations, and a
cordial hospitality was dispensed, a
i group of friends assisting in entertain-
ing being Mr. and Mrs. Orton Bishop
Brown of Maine. Mr. and Mrs. Preston
S. Arkwright. Mr. and Mrs. George
Howard and Miss Hattie Colquitt. Mrs.
Smith wore while net over white satin
embroidered. Miss Hildreth Smith wor»
a French gown of rose-colored taffeta.

is at its loveliest just now, the dogwood

tains abloom with wild flowers. Mr.
and Mrs. Nunnally are enjoying motor
trips, horseback rides, etc., and Mrs
Nunnally has entirely recovered from
• the indisposition which was a matter of

! much concern to her friends just before
f her marriage and which caused the cur-
• tailment of the brilliant wedding plans
