' OUITSCITYFIGHT
Massee’s Threat of Publicity
Causes Moore’s Retirement
From Race for Re-election
MACON, GA.. May 29.—Mayor John
T. Moor* has retired from Macon poli
k tics, announcing that he will not be a
" candidate for re-election. This ends a
bitter personal political fight revolving
around a proposed change in the char
ter. The mayor’s announcement fol
lowed the public statement of W. J.
Massee that tomorrow he would pub
lish the facts as to his recent charge
that the mayor is and has been the
largest local stockholder In the Macon
public utility companies.
There will probably be four or five in
dependent candidates for the mayoral
ty, as the retirement of Mayor Moore
and his split with Mr. Massee has al
ready disrupted the administration
party.

nor any other member of the women's

for his or her city."

AT THE THEATER
FORSYTH BILL DRAWS
LARGS’ CROWDS THIS WEEK
There has never been a greater inter
est tn a bill' of vaudeville offered in At
lanta than is centered In the really ex
cellent combination of talent that makes
up the program at the Forsyth this week.
It is a show that is fine for warm weath
er, and that would crowd the biggest
theater in the city, just as it is filling the
Forsyth at all performances now.
The star attraction is the appearance of
W’illa Holt Wakefield, the distinguished
Atlanta woman, who has occupied a star
position in vaudeville for a long time.
She has not been here in four years,
and, though a star at that time, she has
advanced even further, and Is now one
of the recognized features of this depart
ment of things theatrical.
Miss Wakefield presents her famous
“pfanologue,” rendering talking songs
that others have made, every effort to
counterfeit, but without a suggestion of
success. Her offering is really delightful
and a splendid feature on any bill.
There are other sterling acts. The
I-angdons offer the most unique and orig
inal comedy novelty that has been seen
at the Forsyth. They also use a stage
effect that is realistic and that has not
yet failed to win applause. Carl McCul
lough. the versatile young comedian, Is
contributing something to the success of
the bill, he tells good stories, sings well
funny songs and his good natured traves
ties on some of the well known stars
please. The singing of Wright and Diet
rich carries value and the Rex Burlesque
tlireus ts one of the best closing acts
the Forsyth has had.
Seats are selling fost for next week,
when Mabel Taliaferro will appear in her
newest vaudeville sketch. Miss Talia
ferro is the creator of Polly in “Polly of
the Circus," and absolutely a new-comer
in vaudeville, but her success has been
as great as when she appeared in the $2-
a -eat theaters Shep Camp, an Atlanta
boy, who has been the star of Henry H
Harris' “The Traveling Salesman his
season, will be another of the features fur
next week.

THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN AND NEWS: WEDNESDAY. MAY 29. 1912.
Oh. see the beyootiful ladv!
Has she been robbed? Yes, indeed.
Also she is Robbing—Robbing Hood,
our old friend, the John D. of the Not
tingham forest.
But when’was she robbed?
Why, she was robbed tvhen she came
to Atlanta with the grand opry singers
spring before last. Two steamer trunks
and one wardrobe trunk were robbed
from her right here in Atlanta, since
which time she has had to go about
attired as you may observe if your eye
sight be not failing.
Alas, Poor Florence!
Cruel robber!
Poor Florence Wickham!
But. ah!
An even sadder thing has happened
since that fell day.
Florence was in her dressing room,
on the fifth floor of the New Amster
dam theater, in bad old Noo York, the >
other night and the door got locked
and she couldn't answer the cue for her |
to appear on the stage and gladden a
lapge and tumultuous audience —or, per
haps, sightseers. One never can tell.
What was she to do?
Crash!
A thought occurs to her!
So she opens the window and climbs
down the fire escape, knocks on the
stage door and flits merrily to the spot
light just in time to warble. “Oh. Prom
ise Me.”
Now, wasn't it lucky that that At
lanta robber hadn't left her a
skirt?
Things always turn out for the’best.
Women who bear children and re
main healthy are those who prepare
their systems in advance of baby’s
coming. Unless the mother aids
nature in Its pre-natal work the crisis
finds her system unequal to the de
mands made upon It, and she is often
left with weakened health or chronic
ailmenti. No remedy is so truly a
help to nature as Mother’s Friend,
and no expectant mother should fail
to use it It relieves the pain and
discomfort caused by the strain on
the ligaments, makes pliant and elas
tic those fibres and muscles which
nature is expanding, prevents numb
ness of limbs, and soothes the inflam
mation of breast glands. The system
being thus prepared by Mother's
Friend dispels the fear that the crisis
may not be safely met Mother’s
Friend assures a speedy and complete
recovery for the mother, and she is
left a healthy woman to enjoy the
rearing of her

book for expect-
ant mothers which contains much
valuable information, and many sug
gestions of a helpful nature.

WATER COMMISSIONER AT
MACON STARTS RATE WAR
MACON. GA., May 29.—Commission
er W. A. Huff has notified the other
two members of the city water board
that he will apply to the courts for an
injunction to stop tire sale of water
to manufacturing consumers at 6 cents
per 1.000 gallons.
"Rather than give the city's water
away to the wealthy class, while poor
people are charged 30 cents for the
same quantity, I am going to enjoin
myself,” is the declaration of Commis
sioner Huff.
It has been calculated that it costs
7 cents to distill and distribute the wa
ter, but the other two members decline
<o raise the manufacturers’ rate or to
reduce the charge for small consum
ers.
