This cdmpahy will be capitalized at
$250,000, and will issut bonds to the
extent of $500,000. It is proposed the
county do $250,000 worth of improve
ments with its convicts This compa
ny would have in charge the annual
fair.

proposed the annual fair at Toronto will

mination to put the matter through.

P. 8. Linwood, who put on the Kir-
I mess in Atlanta, won considerable pub
licity in Nashville this week by his an
nouncement that cigarettes would be
smoked on thh stage by the ladles and
gentlemen taking part in the produc
tion. As cigarettes art. strictly out
lawed In Nashville by state law. legal
authorities and the mothers of the. hun
dred children who took part in the Kir
mess became Indignant.
It was det fared by officers of the state
humane commission that Linwood and
other members of the Kirmess would
be attested the moment the first eig
jarett - was lighted. Linwood positively
I refused to abandon his plans.
"We have a Caimen scene," he .said,
"(.'an you imagine a Carman without a
cigarette? You might as well have a
Salome in overalls.''
But when ths curtain fell on the first
‘ night's performance not a cigarette "at
visible, and no arrests had been made.

A lot of folks from East or South
Atlanta were late to work this morn
ing—those that expected to report
about 7:45 o'clock. There Were no
cars to corhe on Just about that time,
the derailment of a South Decatur car
on East Alabama street having tied up
all cars going in that direction.
Twenty cars were standing still at
7:30 o'clock fourteen were backed on
Alabama street from Pryor to White
hall and six were tied up on Pryor
street. For twenty minutes workmen
tugged at the derailed ear and succeed
ed in slipping it back on the track at
7:35 o’clock.

Two Atlantans, W. H. Moyer, warden
of the tlnlted States penitentiary, and
Joseph C. Logan, secretary of the local
Associated Charities, will be among the
speakers at the social service confer
ence to be held in Sewanee on July 14
to 19.
The conference will be held under the
auspices of the university extension de
partment of the University of the
South. Wat don .Moyer will speak on
“Prison Reform." and Mr. Logan on
"Organized Charity and the Social Ex
pert."

on the camps of American marines at.

SANTIAGO. CUBA, June B.—With
more than 6.000 marines and bluejack
ets on Cuban soil plans for a general
campaign are being mapped out here
today by the American officers. Their
forces wit! be ready to move against
the rebels as soon as word is flashed
from Washington that intervention is
ordered. There is nd doubt expressed
here that the United States will take
such an action.

Officers and men of the Seventeenth
Infantry at Fort McPherson are con
tinuing preparations for service in
Cuba, constantly expecting an official
order to entrain for Savannah. Officers
both at headquarters and on the reser
vation believe this expedition to Cuba
is certain.
The railroads will be asked to sup
ply three sphefal trains. Several Pull
mans. a number of tourist sleepers or
day coaches and several stock ears for
Ihfe horses will be required. Either the
Central or the Southern will handle
the trains. Both are known to be as
sembling ears.

woman.

stammered.
