MISSING GIRL RETURNS

MACON. GA.. July 3. —Miss Hattie
Belle Speer, the slxteen-year-old girl
whose absence from home had pros

returned last night, saying that she had
spent’ the time with a girl friend, in
two blocks of police headquarters, and
was ignorant that her supposed disap

JUST A LITTLE CALOMEL TODAY MEANS
MORE NEXT MONTH
Because Calomel Never Cures.
It Simply Shocks the System
Into Temporary Action, But
Weakens the Organs.
Calomel is a powerful mercurial drug.
Jt has the power to crash into the sour
bile on the stomaoh, work it up and
throw it off. The shock and the work
ing up of the bile forces the liver and
bowels to action, but with this forcible
movement, and the vomiting and the
awful nausea, the whole system is
weakdhed, the bowels paralyzed, and a
dose of castor oil or strong salts must
be taken to relax the muscles.
And remember: only the sour bile
has been removed from the stomach.
What caused the bile and the constipa
tion has not been corrected, and in a
few weeks you need a stronger dose.

Jacobs’ Liver Salt acts upon the liver
as surely as calomel, but by stimula
tion, not force, and it removes the cause
of the trouble. It immediately dis
solves the uric acid poison that has de
posited in the system and carries it oft
in the urine, it combines easily with
the chemical juices of the stomach and
flushes the whole intestinal canal and
cleanses it of all impurities. And it
increases the deficient supply of sul
phates. w hat Nature uses to digest food
and to prevent the deposit of uric acid.
We consider. Jacobs’ Liver Salt the
best remedy that has yet been offered
for a sluggish liver, biliousness, consti
pation, sour stomach, rheumatism, neu

Mil PUTS BAN
ON WILD FOURTH
Atlanta to Observe the Nation's
Birthday at Picnic Parties
Jhd Baseball Games,
Mayor Winn said today he believed
he was expressing the sentiment of the
whole city in urging a safe and sane
celebration of the Fourth.
The mayor notified Chief Beavers
that he might permit the explosion of
crackers and rockets on private prem
ises only, within the city limits.
“There will be no dissension on this
point." said the mayor, “but to guard
against the recklessness of the thought
less, 1 will instruct the police to rigidly
enforce the law against the discharge
of fireworks and firearms. I am glad
that the time has come in this country
when we can rejoice on the anniversary
of our independence without destroying
property and sacrificing little children."
The 1942 Fourth, the day of the birth
of a new national flag with 48 stars,
adding two to commemorate the en
trance into the Union of New Mexico
and Arizona, will be a rather quiet
holiday in Atlanta. It will be observed
only by many picnics and pleasure par
ties and extra baseball games.
To Double Police Watch.
Chief Beavers today issued an or
der to the police calling for a quiet
observance of the day. The order per
mits only the shooting of crackers and
small fireworks, and this in private
yards. No firecrackers or fireworks of
any kind will be tolerated in the streets.
Shortly after the issuance of this or
der, Chief Beavers received a letter
from Mayor Winn suggesting a strict
enfpreement of the city laws in this
respect, so a.s to give Atlanta a safe
and sane Fourth.
"The shooting of fireworks is dan ■
gerous. and the city law's governing this
kind of celebration will be rigidly en
forced." said the chief.
Chief Beavers has also taken precau
tions to keep good order. The evening
watch will go on duty at noon, in
stead of 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and
will remain in service until midnight.
The day watch will go on duty at the
regular hour, 8 o’clock in the morning,
but will not come off until 8 o’clock at
night. By this extra duty, double pro
tection will be afforded.
The Daughters of the American Rev
'■ition will hold formal exercises in
’>• chapter house on Piedmont ave
at 4 o’clock in the afternoon,
iierica” will be sung, the declaration
independence read and Dr, John E.
White will deliver an address.
Several Picnics Planned.
The greatest expression of the holi
day spirit will be at the baseball park
and at the city parks and numerous
picnic grounds. The Atlanta team has
two games scheduled with Montgomery
—one in the morning and one in the
afternoon.
sport world also will be enter
tained with extras tiling of the Flynn.
Johnson fight.
The Germans of the city will have
a picnic at Germania park under the
auspices of the Turn Verein. There
will be dancing and fireworks in the
evening.
The Socialists of South Bend will
have a basket dinner in the grove at
the corner of the McDonough road and
Sawtell avenue.
AH public buildings and the great
majority of business institutions will
close for a holiday or a half holiday.

JAIL HUSBAND'S REFUGE
J. C. Thomas. 24n Sells avenue, a con

Women who hear children and re
main healthy are those who prepare
their systems in advance of baby’s
coming. Unless the mother aids
nature in Its pre-natal work the crisis
finds her system unequal to the de
mands made upon It, and she is often
left with weakened health or chronic
ailments. No remedy Is so truly a
help to nature as Mother’s Friend,
and no expectant, mother should fall
to use it. It relieves the pain and
discomfort caysed by the strain on
the ligaments, makes pliant and elas
tic those fibres and muscles which
nature is expanding, prevents numb
ness of limbs, and soothes the Inflam
mation of breast glands. The system
being thus prepared by Mother’s
Friend dispels the fear that the crisis
may not be safely met. Mother’s
