Says Gen. Wright
General W. A. Wright. state Insur
ance commissioner, said today that the
allegations in the Miles suit against the
Rome Insurance Company were true In
th» main. He asserted that a syndi
cate of stockholders and directors of
the Rome company did take profits on
the sale of throe for one stock, an ac
tion which they maintained was legal
and were willing to test in court.
They were requested to turn the
money back to the company and one
of the officers. Captain J. 1.. Bass. did.
Bass is made an exception in Miles'
suit
As regards the merger General
Wright said that it had bet n authorized
and the reinsurance in the Cherokee
company would be made on August 2.
The Rome company; hr said, would I
he strengthened by the merger. The
suit, he said, was an outgrowth of a
Stockholder s' disagreement and did not
affect the standing of the company or
the policy holders.

Miss Kate Edwards is the artist who
was commissioned last January by the
legislature to paint the portrait. The
nil painting is made from several por
traits of the Georgia senator and par
ticularly follows one which is the
choice of Mrs Clay It shows her hus
band seated in a ’ character istlc pose
with his head slightly forward and an
intense expression on his face and is
said by friends to he a perfect likeness
of the senator

An ordinance by Aiderman Nutting was
adopted bj the city council yesterday aft
ernoon establishing a new building line
on Peachtree street, providing that this
street shall be an SO-foot street. It Is:
From Ellis to Baker street and front
Forrest avenue to Fifteenth street no
building shall lie erected nearer than
40 feet from the center of Peachtree
street along the two sections of
Peachtree street above defined, thus
giving an SO-foot street
Furthermore. no new buildings
hereafter erected shall be built nearer
to the center of Peachtree street,
along such sections, than 40 feel.

of the Stanley steel committee at an
executive meeting today leached a ten
tative agreement that all of the mem
hets of the committee would approve
the filing of a suit for the dissolution of
the steel corporation

friends and advocates.
A meeting has been called by‘the
National Progressive committee for
Georgia for a convention in Atlanta on
Thursday, July 25, for the purpose* of
considering ways and means of organ
ization and to name delegates to the
national convention In Chicago on Au
gust 5. Conventions are called in the
various congressional districts of th°
state on Monday. July 22. to choose
delegates—two from each congres
sional district —to the Atlanta conven
tion on the following Thursday.
The central committee will name four
delegates at large to participate in the
Atlanta gathering and will name dis
trict delegates.in any district in which,
the faithful fail to sassemble. '
