The New Y'ork and New Orleans cotton
exchanges. New York stock exchange,
Chicago board of trade, cotton seed oil
market, New York coffee exchange and all
other American exchanges were closed to
business today in memory of Y’ice Presi
dent James S. Sherman. All exchanges
will reopen for usual business Monday
and then close again on Tuesday on ac
count of the presidential election, reopen
ing Wednesday morning to resume their
usual business. 5
The Liverpool cotton exchange remained
open today for its usual short session.
Their cables were due to come \y.. to 2
points lower today, but the market opened
steady with prices showing irregularity,
being \' 2 to 1% points lower to 1 to i 2
points higher than yesterday’s final. At
12:15 p. m. the market was steady with
November 4 points lower and November-
December 2 points decline with remote
positions 2 to 7 points advance from the
opening. At the close the market was
steady with November 5 points decline
and other positions displaying a net gain
of 2(4 to 6 points from the final quota
tions of yesterday.

cotton exchange statement of the move
ment of cotton, issued Friday, covers t,he
monthly movement to the close of Octo
ber.
Compared with last year it shows an in
crease for the month in round numbers
of 112,000 bales, compared with year be
fore last an increase of 439.00 and with
1909 an Increase of 383,000 bales.
The total for October was 1,900,501, ;
against 2,788,324 last year, 2,461.016 year
before last and 2,517,344 same time In 1909.
The movement from September 1 to
October 31, inclusive, shows receipts at
all United States ports 3,331,574. against
3,342,533 last year, 2,697,854 year before
last and 2,884,963 same time In 1909;
overland across the Mississippi, Ohio and
Potomac rivers to Northern mills and
Canada 107,618, against 106.389 last year,
109,495 year before last and 113,606 same
time in 1909; Southern mills takings, ex
clusive of quantity consumed at Southern
outports, 502,000, against 440,000 same time
in 1909, and interior stocks in excess of
those held at the commencement of the
season 404,625, against 494,376 last year.

These make the total movement for tha
cotton crop brought into sight during the
two months ending at the close of Octo
ber 4,325,817, against 4,389,798 last year,
3,633,791 year before last and 3,866,194

In addition to the monthly figures. Sec
retary Hester issued today a statement of
the weekly movement for the seven days
ending November 1, inclusive, showing
total brought into sight this year 711,-
168, against 671,666 for the seven days
ending November 1 last year, 575,201
year before last and 564,443 same time in,
1909.
World’s Visible Supply.

world’s visible supply of cotton made up
from special cable and telegraphic ad
vices compares the figures of this week
with last week, last year and the year
before. It shows an Increase for the
week just closed of 346,232, against an In
crease of 249,723 last year and an increase
of 272,785 year before last.
The total visible is 4,416.234, against
4,070,002 last week, 3,606,036 last year and
3,203,603 year before last. Os this the
total of American cotton is 3.580,234.
against 3,234,002 last week, 9,064,036 lasi
year, and 2,647,603 year before last, and oi
all other kinds, including Egypt, Brazil,
India, etc., 836,000, against 836,000 last
week, 542,000 last year amd 646,000 year
before last.
The total world’s visible supply of cot
ton as above shows an increase compared
with last week of 346,232, an increase
compared with last year of 810,198 and an
increase compared with year before last
of 1,122,631.
Os the world’s visible supply of cot
ton as above there is now afloat and held
in Great Britain and Continental Europe
2,370,000, against 1,787,000 last year and
1.847,000 year before last; In Egypt 210,-
000. against 115,000 last year and 166,000
year before last; in India 350,000, against
222,000 last year and 162,000 year before
last, and In the United States 1,486,000.

World’s Spinners' Takings.
Secretary Hester gives the taking of
American cotton by spinners throughout
the world as follows, in round numbers:
This week 365,000 this year, against
500,000 last year, 387,000 year before last.
Total since September 1 this year 2,179,-
000, against 2.309.000 last year and 1,921,-
000 the year before.
Os this. Northern spinners and Canada
took 367,000 bales this year, against 446,-
000 last year and 478,000 the year before;
Southern spinners 525,000, against 462,00(1
last year and 435,000 the year before and
foreign spinners 1,287,000, against 1,401,000
last year and 1,008,000 the year before.

Conditions.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 2. Local snows
fell near the Great Lakes last night and /
freezing temperatures prevailed from the
Appalachian mountains westward, ac
cording to the weather bureau today.
There were frosts in the interior of Tex
as, northern Louisiana and central Mis
sissippi.
The weather will be fair tonight and
Sunday east of the Mississippi river, with
freezing temperatures tonight In the mid
dle Atlantic and New England states and
the Interior of the south Atlantic states,
except the Florida peninsula.
