Fancers, knowing b.ow difficult it is to secure absolute white
•ss in an Orpington male, marveled at the color of this male which
headed the first pen exhibited by Owen Farms, of Vineyard Haven,
Mass. He won a special as the whitest bird in the show.
, Some Impressions of the Great Georgia
Poultry Show
By JUDGE F. J. MARSHALL.
W. G. Archer’s first pen of Buff Rocks
was wonderfully uniform in color and
shading, a quality hard to get in buff.
The type was good, too.
The second prize pen of White Rocks,
' owned by Paul Wright, city, contained a
cock of remarkable type and breeding, as
well as show qualities. He would have
1 made a hit in the singles.
The first prize Barred Rock cock,
owned by the Atlanta Poultry Yards, is a
wonder, such as one does not see in years
of Judging, with that clean, clear-cut
sharp barring so hard to get as every
! Rock breeder well knows. Such a bird is
I almost worth his weight in gold.
In the third prize pen of Black Orping
tons of E. L. Sutton, Clarkston, is a hen
that stands out as one of rare merit. She
has that broad, heavy type of body, with
the bottle green plumage shining like so
much glass.
The cockerel heading the pen of Black
Orpingtons, owned by Southland Poultry
Yards, Clarkston, Ga., Is only seven
months old, but shows great possibilities.
The tail is not out in full, but with that
developed and the broader body of more
age will make a bird to be heard from.
The first prize Brown Leghorn pen of
H. T. Boyd, of Sweetwater, Tenn., win
ning sweepstakes of the show, deserves
more than a passing notice. The hens
are uniform in coloring of back and
wings, being that soft willowy brown so
hard to secure. The cockerel is tine in
style and snappy and bright in the black
strlpings of neck and saddle.
The Red Pyle Bantam cock, owned by
The Bantamry, city, is one of the best
stationed birds I have ever handled. He
has that low tarried whip tall, long
shanks and clean snaky head. Watch the
game fanciers look at him.
Atlanta Poultry Yards, in their Honda n
exhibit, are showing two of the best hens

taping through the plumage. This is one
of the ol<l and reliable breeds that is
’ gradually coming into prominence again,
i
s Coop No. 790, White Orpington pen,
s owned by H. O. Kefersteln, Hilliard, Fla.,
contained a male bird of sterling worth,
but the hens were not properly mated
. with him to win.
5 A. V. Clifton, of Stone Mountain. Ga.,
r is mighty proud of his first prize Black
, Orpington pullet and well he may be.
. , She is good in comb, broad, deep and car
’ ; ries a. good shaped tail. She is not quite
i up to her prime, either. About four weeks
i more will help her very much.
I ■ The first prize White Wyandotte ccck

slightly defective comb and sickle feath
