HE WROTE EDITORIALS

PONTIAC, ILL., Dec. 6.—E. N. Ste
vens. editor of The Paxton Register
for 40 years, is dead at the age of 80
years at his home in Paxton. Stevens
was engaged in editorial work nearly
60 years.
He is said to have been the oldest
editor in point of service in the United
States.

WOMEN JURORS OPEN
TRIAL WITH A PRAYER
ELDORADO, KANS., Dec. 6.—The
first women’s Jury in a Kansas court of
record was' out three hours on its first
case. At the expiration of that time
the twelve women, escorted by a wom
an bailiff, returned to the court room.-
The jury forewoman handed in a
written verdict, awarding the plaintiff
$1,200 damages, based on alleged mis
representation of a quarter section of
land in Gove county.
A year ago the same case was tried
before a jury of men. They could not
agree on a verdict.

first jury of women in a Kansas court
of record began consideration of the
testimony with prayer.
