Sheriff Mangum announced today that the execution would be conducted in private in strict compliance with the law. No person, excepting the author ities, will be permitted to witness Clay’s death. HARTLAW IS GIVEN COMMISSION The adjutant general's department today issued a commission to Captain William riartlaw, of Atlanta, recently elected to that position by the German- American Guards. Jones, of Macon, charged with complicity in the killing of Wesley Bishop, will get a third trial in the iytd> superior court ns a result of a recent supreme court decision reversing the judgment. John Cooper, attorney for Jones, car ried the case to the high tribunal and obtained a reversal on technical grounds. Jones was put on trial In Macon some time ago, and the jury fail ed to agree. A second trial convicted Jones, and he was sentenced to life im prisonment. Tom Jones, a is serving a life sentence for complicity in the kill ing. NEGRO USES BABY AS SHIELD IN FIGHT WITH POLICEMAN After beating his wife and chasing members of his family out into the cold, Walter Johnson, a negro living in the rear of 258 Lee street. West End, early today battled with Bicycle Policeman Jameson, holding a year-old infant in his arms to prevent the officer hitting him. With the baby as protection, the ne gro kicked and struck the officer, who, realizing that he might kill the Infant If he used his blllle or pistol, closed In on the negro and finally threw him to the floor. He then fastened on the hand cuffs and subdued the negro. Recorder Broyles gave Johnson 30 days in the stockade. M. & M-TsSOCIATTON TO ELECT OFFICERS AT DINNER TONIGHT The annual meeting of the Mer chants and Manufacturers association will be held tonight, taking the form of a dinner at Case Durand. Officers for the year will be elected and plans for boosting business will be discussed. Sam D. Jones and Victor H. Krieg shaber will speak on the proposed per manent exhibit of Atlanta manufac tures. and J. K. Orr will lead a discus sion on a "merchants week” to be held in February, when Georgia retailers will be invited to visit Atlanta. PARTED BY A QUARREL, WED FIFTY YEARS LATER JOPLIN, MO., Dec. 12.—Sweethearts 50 years ago and separated because of a trivial quarrel, Isom White, aged 72, and Mrs. Lydia Ann Jenkins, 69 years old, renewed their courtship here re cently. and were married. During their long estrangement both had married and reared large families. White'* wife died ten years ago and Mrs Jenkins was a widow when she and White resumed their acquaintance. DETROIT, Dec. 12.—A civil suit, al leging violation of the Sherman anti trust law, was today filed against the "Horseshoers trust" in the Federal court here. The petition, which was filed by United States Attorney C I. Webster for the department of justice, asks an injunction against the Master Horse shoers Protective association from con tinuing their alleged combination in re straint of trade. The petition is signed by Attorney- General Wickersham. Assistant Attor ney General J. A. Fowler, and Special Assistant to the Attorney General S. D. Montgomery. Among the companies which the gov ernment seeks to enjoin are the Dryden Hood and Pad Company, of Illinois: Hoopston Horse Nail Company, of Illi nois; Firestone Tire and Rubber Com pany, of Ohio; Octagon Drop Forge Company, of Illinois: Killian & Sons Company, of Massachusetts; William E. Murphy, of Philadelphia; Harry T. Baldwin, of Grand Rapids, Mich,; Charles Kelso, of Baltimore; Charles H. Dryden, of Chicago; the Master Horseshoers National Protective Asso ciation of America; Williams Drop Forging Company, of Pennsylvania, and A. Carl Judson, of Chicago. The government declares that the de fendants entered into unlawful agree ments to strangle trade, not only- in this country, but in Canada. GA., Dec. 12.—Mrs. Bessie Neidllnger is at the point of death today, having been stabbed by her husband. Ed Neidllnger, last night. The assault took place in a drug store while Mrs. Neidllnger was telephoning for the police. Neidllnger previously had been try ing to reconcile his wife. Yaarab temple, Imperial Order of the Mystic Shrine, announced today the formation and line of march of the torchlight parade which will be a part of its ceremonial tomorrow evening. J. O, Seamans has been named grand marshal of the parade, which will form In East Caln street, near Peachtree, at 4:45 o’clock and move toward the city at 5:10 o'clock. Al Sihah temple, of Macon, will send a large delegation to the ceremonial. The parade will be composed of mounted police, Red Men's Drum corps, Yaarab patrol, novices, Yaarab camel, potentate Yaarab temple and officers, nobles Yaarab temple and visiting no bles, Al Sihah Temple band, potentate Al Sihah temple, and nobles of Al Si hah temple. The line of march will be Peachtree to Marietta, to Broad, to Hunter, to Whitehall, to Peachtree, to Edgewood avenue, to Auditorium-Armory, where a banquet will be served for all, in the Taft hall. The special committee of council ap pointed to reorganize the chief of con struction department will resume Its work at a meeting beginning at 3 o’clock this afternoon. Councilman Charles W. Smith, the chairman, said today that the commit tee would make its recommendations for changes to council before the first of the year. The work of this commit tee was begun as a result of The Geor gian’s campaign for better streets. Un der .a charter amendment secured from the general assembly authority was given to reorganize the department the first of the year. Mayor Winn today signed the con tract for the building of the retaining walls on Ivy street. Chief of Construc tion Clayton notified the county com missioners that the city was ready for the county to begirj the work of regrad ing the street. Dec. 12.—Because a husband does not kiss his wife and even refuses to speak to her for days at a time is no reason why she should have a divorce, in the opinion of a jury here today. Mrs. S. D. Roquemore told the jury that her husband was "an ice box,” which lie denied, and that he did not demonstrate any affection for her. The jury refused to give her a divorce.
