Christmas day is only a few days
aliead. This was the last day of school
for two weeks.
The report was circulated at the Da
vis Street school that in future tie r
wouldn't be any last day. Johnny Duf i
fy brought in a rumor that Superiu-I
tendent Slaton, having observed how
little work was done on the last day. 1
had decided to make that also a holiday I
in future. No official verification of the i
rumor has been given out.
School will not "take in" again until i
January 2, the day after New Year, and |
the vacation tlds season is one of the |
longest on record. It happened that '
way because the calendar happened !
that way. Christmas comes next Wed- |
nesday, as everybody more than a year j
old knows. And even the board of cd- I
ucation knew there wouldn't be the !
slightest use in having school on Mon- •
day and Tuesday, with th. teacheis all
having their minds on presents for the I
sweethearts .nd from them and neg
lecting tiie pupils who would he .study- I
ng so hard and so anxious to recite. ‘
So the hoi.rd and Mr. Slaton decided to I
scratch off all th, days b< two. n today I
and the day after New Year's and let i
everybody have a good time.
