WASHINGTON. April IB.—With the
^•jcultural schedule again before it,

faced a revival of the controversy
over taxing the American housewife's
market basket. Encouraged by the

Wrong effort to put wheat on the free
fiat.
I This produce is carried In the Hn-
perwood bill at a duty of 10 cents a
bushel, despite the fact that flour has
been placed on the free list. Repre
sentative Curley, of Massachusetts,
one of the men .w ho fought for free
tattle, declured to-day It would be
Knltsh to remove the tax from flour
|nd still retain it on wheat if the
Democratic party purposed to make a
genuine effort to reduce the cost of
living.
It Is doubtful if the agricultural
■chedule can be completed before to-
flaorrow.
The combine of Democratic Con
gressmen from nine Western States
Consisting of about 50 members, It was
lparned to-day, has abandoned Its plan
lo make a concerted light on the Un
derwood bill In the caucus. These

for more protective rates to the floor

Threats of ‘Rocky’
Yarns Pique Women
Fair Democrats of Spokane Invited,
Then Warned Not to Attend
Political Banquet.
SPOKANE, WASH., April 16.—
"Shall we i?n or stay away? If we
go, will they tell thoae ‘rocky* atoriea
anyway? What will our friends and
neighbors think of os if they should
tell thorn* Htorlea while we were pres
ent? What arc 'rocky* stories, any
way? Are they terribly bad?”
These and similar question to-day
are agitating the women of the Dem
ocratic party of Spokane, who were
formally invited to attend the Jef
ferson dinner to-night and then In
formally told by Dr. D. C. Newman,
president of the Thomas Jefferson
Society, that they ' were not expect
ed to accept the Invitations as 'rocky*
stories were going to be told and wine
and cigars served."
The women are just as angry as
they can be at Dr. Newman and they
debated to-day whether they should
go to the dinner in defiance of Dr.
Newman's warning. Some were for
it, others against it, the latter taking
the position that the horrid men,
piqued by the unwelcome presence of
women, would tell "rocky" little yarns
and neighbors of said ladies would
have a nice chance for gossip. But
they all admit they are "most awfully
curious" about those “rocky" stories.

No case of contagious blood poison
is ever cured until the last particle
of the virus has been remove<1 from
the circulation. The least taint left
Jn the blood will, sooner or later,
cause n fresh outbreak of ihe trouble,
with all Its hideous and destructive
symptoms of ulcerated mouth and
throat, copper colored splotches, fall
ing hair, sores and ulcers, etc. No
other medicine so surely cures conta
gious Wood poison as S. S. S. It goes
down into the blood and steadily and
surely drives out every particle of the
infection. It absolutely and perfectly
purities the blood, and leaves this vi
tal fluid as fresh, rich and healthy as
it was before the destructive virus
of contagious blood poison entered
the circulation. S. S. S. quickly takes
effect on the blood, and gradually the
symptoms disappear, the health is
improved, the skin cleared of all
spots, sores ami other blemishes, the
hair stops coming out, the mouth and
throat heal and when S S. S. has
cleansed the system of the poison no
trace of the disease Is left. S. S. S.
cures contagious blood poison because
