In Co-operation
Poultrymen Save
Time and Money
Eggs Should He Stamped and Guar
anteed—Make Good All
Shortage.
Two or more poultry men oi fann
ers interested in poultry can save
many a dollar by co-operating *0 as
to cut down expenses and fcAcilkate
the handling of their products and
the buying of supplies.
Perhaps no one of a party would
get enough eggs to promptly fill a
case for shipment and have them
fresh, while by two or three respon
sible parties clubbing together for
the purpose they may be able to fill
and ship two or three casts a week
or one a day, according to circum
stances.
Let the ope most convenient to the
station do the packing arid shipping
and receive for his services so many
cents per crate, just enough to pay for
the work really performed. By al!
means secure a special customer or
customers for them—a consumer who
knows the value of good, fresh, clean
eggs and is willing to pay extra for
such quality, the producers guaran
teeing such quality. Let each one
who furnishes eggs for shipping have
a rubber stamp, all alike except the
number, each to have a number of
his own on his stamp. The stamps
may read something like this: "Wood-
viile Co-operating Poultry Company,
No. 7,” the number representing the

party who furnished the eggs hear
ing that! number and who would have
10 maj\e good all his eggs reported
bail bearing that number. With the
additional penalty that where a cer
tain number of eggs from the pro
ducer are reported per month that he
be fined so many cents, to be de
ducted from his returns, the object
being, however, -to get parties to the
compact Who will allow but few. if
any, bad eggs 10 go to market, build
ing up a splendid reputation for the
best that can be secured or pro
duced.
Marketing of Broilers.
The marketing of broilers can be
carried on in much the same man
ner. In fact, let all the poultry and
products produced by the members bo
marketed by a single concern.
Grapes from thej?reat grape belt of
New York and Ohio are marketed in
just this manner. In fact, most of
the fruit grown in this country is
handled that way, and there appears
no good reason why poultry products
should not follow suit.
It would not only be advantageous
in the way of seeing the profit, but in
the buying of supplies as well, such
as feeds of various klnus wmch art
not produced on the place, together
with the many accessmies, such as
beef meal, beef scraps, oyster shell,
bone meal, grit and the many neces
sary adjuncts to convenient and sue V
cessful poultry raising. This plan
would be right handy to the small
raiser in the vicinity who would like a
bag of shells or beef scraps who could
not afford to send a 1< ng distance*
perhaps, and pay heavy freight bills
on small consignments. Fresh bone
could be supplied certain days in the
w eek by one of the number running a
power grinder in which all had in-|
vested money to create.
There are some localities in tr»e
South where quite an association
could be forme-a and carried on suc
cessfully, while there are many oth
ers where it would not be practical to
get more than a little firm of two or
three who would join in whenever
they wished to send off for supplies.
It would be none the less profitable.
Keep all ideas of graft out of such
things and let them he co-workers
for th<* benefit of all concerned. Peo
ple are as a rule slow to take hold of
things like this, w r e know , but we sen
no valid reason w hy so plain a propo
sition as you help me and i will help
you should not be readily accepted.
