Committee Meeting

REAL ESTATE FOR SALE.
The Capital City Club’s country
club committee is holding a confer
ence Thursday afternoon which It is
expected will be the last preparatory
to signing up for the 150 acres at
Brookhaven. The Superior Court has
ratified the recent sale to the Brook
haven Estates, and the proposition is
now in definite shape for final action.
Robert F\ Maddox, one of the com
mittee, returned from New York Wed
nesday and got into touch with the
committee to urge an early meeting.
Charles P. Glover is handling the deal
for the Brookhaven Estates.
Realty Charter Sought.
W. E. Worley, J. A. Mahoney and
J. W. Willis, of Fulton County, iiave
petitioned the Superior Court for a
charter to do business under the cor
porate name of the Woodland Hills
Company, with an initial capital stock
of $10,000 and the privilege of in
creasing to $500,000. This concern
will develop in,to a residence park the
well known Calhoun farm of 400
acres. The tract will be called Wood
land Hills.
Fast Work With Steel.
The Hurt Building is making a rec
ord in building construction. Liv
ing up to its promise to erect four
stories of steel a week, the Realty
Construction Company is putting on
the seventeenth and last story* A
flag was raised over the structure
when the first girder of the seven
teenth floor had been put into place.
The brick and stone work have also
made satisfactory progress.
The Healey Building is still waiting 1
for two big derricks to begin raising
the steel frame.
Railroad Buying Property.
For several months people repre
senting railroad interests have been
buying up parcels on streets leading
southward from Marietta Street, for
the purpose of providing a new' rail
road right-of-way. It appears that
this railroad is the Seaboard, whose
present lease Is held jointly with the
Western and Atlantic on the property
of the State in the rear of the Austell
Building. The Seaboard’s lease ex
pires in six or seven years, and the
road must then seek new freight ter
minals. The exact location has not
been determined.
There are several more lotis which
the road needs, it is said, before the
proposed right-of-way will be com
plete.
Andrews Property on Sale.
The high-class residence section
in w’hich are the country places of
Governor-elect John M. Slaton, Colo
nel Walter P. Andrews and James R
Gray is soon to have a number of
new homes. B. M. Grant & Co. have
subdidivided part of the Andrew's
property into 100-foot lots and of
fered tSem for sale, stipulating that
homes shall be erected. Speculator#
can’t buy them. The depth ot hi
lots is about 400 feet.
This subdivision does not include
Colonel Andrews’ home site, but sev
eral lots between him and “Gray-
stone,” and several other lots on An
drews Drive, just off Peachtree Road.
The prices are $75 a front foot up,
and attractive terms will be made to
people who will guarantee to erect
good dwellings.
Times Good, Says Mr. Babbage.
John D. (“Ask Mr.”) Babbage, the
well-known real estate dealer, has re
turned from a short trip to New York,
where he went to perfect loan con
nections with a large Eastern insur
ance concern, which will make loans
on improved Atlanta property in sums
of $50,000 to $1,000,000. Mr. Babbage
reports a loosening of purse-strings
in Wall Street and easier rates of
interest on money, and he sees in
this much greater resources for real
estate investment in the South as well
as in New’ York.
“Everybody’s ears went up when I
told them I was from Atlanta,” de
clared Mr. Babbage, “and they asked
me a lot of questions about local
property. I didn’t see anybody w’ho
wasn’t interested, and no capitalists
who did not regard Atlanta real es
tate as one of the safest investments
in the country as a straightout buy
and as security for money loaned.”
