Owen Poultry Farm,
Largest in World,
Has Changed Hands
Maurice F. Delano, Former Manager,
Now Owner of the Great Concern.
A Buainess Proposition.
one of the largest and most profit
able poultry farms in the United
States—the Owen Parma at Vineyard-
haven. Maas.—has been purchased by
Maurice K. Delano, for years man
ager of the great farm
Owen Farms is without doubt bet
ter and more widely known from one
end of this country to the other than
any other poultry plant In existence.
It is known not only as a farm
raising the very finest stock that can
he produced hy the most expert and
scientific methods in the hands of
men of long experience, but it is a
farm with a reputation for furnish
ing the customer the thing that he
pays for Certainly an enviable rep
utation.
Some fifteen years ago this farm
vv as established by William Barry
Owen, of Victor Talking Machine
fame He started out with the idea
that it was to be a strict business
proposition from start to finish, and
no stone was to be left unturned that
might work for the betterment of the
deal.
With this end in view, he secured
I he services of Maurice F. Delano as
manager. In making this selection hr
certainly showed his remarkable
judgment, for w-e do not believe he
could have found a better man if he
had tried all the leading poultrymen
of this country.
Superior Fitness.
Mr. Delano has shown his supe-
;1or fitness for the work by building
up one of the greatest, if not the
greatest, poultry businesses in this
country, not only from the stand-
imint of amount of business done in
dollars and cents, but in the quality
of the business done and the ulti
mate satisfaction created in the end
lairge prices have been secured for
i he major part of the stock sold, but
with it all has gone the stamp of
quality and the guarantee of the farm
hack of it.
It is not every manager of a farm
uf this character that is able to put
ip such a guarantee of quality and
know what he is talking about, for
there are but a very few who art-
such expert Judges of the stock they
breed as is Mr. Delano He is not
only a Judge of stock anil is able to
make expert selections for the show
100m and the fine breeding yard, but
he is up to the snuff when It comes to
Hitting the stock in condition for thi
show room. It always looks like it
had just stepped out of a bandbox.
Specialties ot Farm.
The specialties of this farm have
been Buff. White and Black Orping
tons, White Wyandot ti-H, White
Plymouth Rocks, and at times a few
others of the leading varieties, but
those have had the principal atten
tion and have been their leaders, Mr
Owen took up the breeding of fine
poultry as a pastime feature suited
to a retired business man as he was.
But the business grew from year to
year way beyond his fondest expects
thins, and has finally come to the
place where he’ finds it mere of a
business than he bargained for, hence
his desire to sell and tak$ a real rest.
His last year's mall order business
amounted to $NI,,OUO.
The reader can woll Imagine some
thing of the'work shch a business
would entail Mr. Oweh has sold this
immense business, lock, stock and
barrel, to his business manager, Mr.
Delano, and has leased him the farm
with all its equipment. Mr. Owen
says he feels that the business has
fallen Into capable hands and will bo
carried forward upon the same broad
lines as heretofore.
We are not personally acquainted
with Mr. Owen, but we have known
Mr Delano for years, even before he
went to the farm, and we consider
htm not only a gentleman from every
standpoint, but a poultrymun of the
first water.
We hesjs-ak for Mr. Delano un
bounded success in his new position
as proprietor of the farm he has so
long managed.
This iransactlon Is without doubt
the greatest In the history of the great'
poultry Industry of this country, and
we felt that it was due our readers
to know- something of a farm that
bud been built up from a plain be
ginning to one doing an JRft.OOO an
nual business.
