J
Viaduct Is Wanted
For Spring Street
Old Agitation To Be Renewed.
Brown Building Changes—Home
for Druid Hills.
Things are shaping up In such a
way, say well-informed real estate
men, that remarkable developments
may be expected shortly on the wes$
side of the city. A good deal has been
said of late about railroad operations,
the proposed Bleckley plaza, which
will extend to Forsyth street, and of
proposed manufactories along railroad
rights of way. Now comes the an
nouncement that the Spring street
viaduct project has been revived.
A well-known citizen Is telling his
- that to* nill make the nue for
i council with the Spring street viaduct
•as one of his platform planks,
j A survey of the ground necessary
for this Improvement was made by
Captain R. M. Clayton, Chief of Con
struction. and the idea Is for the South
end of the bride to strike Madison
avenue.
There has been a growing tendency
to bring the Terminal Station nearer
the center of the city and nearer the
Union Station .and advocates of the
Spring street viaduct anticipate that
such an Improvement will contribute
largely t<> this effect. The Bleckley
Plaza would also serve this end.
The Spring street bridge would be
several hundred feet long and the
idea would be to make It uniform in
height with the other viaducts. The
Forsyth street bridge Is now highest,
with the Broad and Whitehall struc
tures about on a line.
Brown Building Alterations.

home is one of the oldest in the
neighborhood, an'd Is located on a lot
150 by 160 feet. It Is at the corner of
Angler avenue.
Loan Money at 7 Per Cent.
There Is no lack of loan money at 7
per cent on all kinds of Atlanta prop
erty. according to S. B. McKinney, of
the loan department of the Edwin P.
Ansley Real Estate Agency.
"Real estate is the beet security
for money,” declared Mr. McKinney,
“and I w'ould loan on any kind of At
lanta property that was worth any
thing. We are getting money regu
larly from several States of the Un
ion, and this looks like a good sign
to me. Frequently the loan agents
don’t recommend loans on anything
except central and semi-central prop
erty. but I consider the suburban
property around Atlanta splendid se
curity.”
To Fix Price for Floors.
The directors of the Chamber of
Commerce Realty Company are meet
ing Tuesday afternoon to fix a prl.’G

permit tc^ build a three-story dormi
tory for the Marist College on the
east side of Ivy street, near Peach
tree. at a cost of $40,000. The Mackle-
Crawford Construction Company have

Plans for Exhibit Building.
Among the propositions for a site
for Jhe permanent exhibit building of
the Merchants and Manufacturers’
Association is one by L. O. Turner,
the well-known real estate man, who
would locate this structure on the
west side of South Pryor street, 95
feet south of East Mitchell street
The lot is 105 by 185 feet, and a client
of Mr. Turner's would sell it for $80,-
000, on terms acceptable to the Cham
ber of Commerce.
J. R. Smith's proposition was to
erect a $100,000 building at the north
west corner of Bartow' and Walton
streets on a lot fronting 100 feet on
Walton and 95 feet on Bartow. Mr.
Smith and associates would lease this
property ten years at $18,000 a year,
payable $1,500 monthly, with an op
tion to purchase at the end of a year
for $185,000. A loan of about $75,000
would have to be assumed and five
annual notes of $17,000 would be given
at 6 per cent, $25,000 to be cash.

Resume Healey Work.
Work was again taken up Tuesday
on the Healey Building, following a
ten-dav strike, and prospects point to
satisfactory progress from now on.
The Healey lost 60 days at the start
because her giant cranes failed ;o
arrive, and thus fell far behind the
Hurt Building and the Winecoff Ho
tel. The latter are due to be com
pleted October 1, but the Healey
Building will not be ready for tenants
until after January 1, 1914.
