East Point Oil Mill
Sold for $157,500;

Swift & Co. Trade With Southern
Cotton Oil Co.—50-Year Tenancy
on Railroad Lot—Other Notes.
The Southern Cotton Oil Company
has sold to Swift & Co., packers, its
small mill at East Point, together
with 13 55-100 acres of land, for
$157,500. The sale was handled di
rect. Report of it was confirmed Fri
day by W. M. Hutchinson, manager of
the Southern Cotton Oil Company.
The oil concern retains its larger
mill at Fort McPherson. It has 80
mills In various parts of the South.
Located on the north side of the
Central of Georgia Railway, the tract
is at the dividing line of the tract
formerly owned by the Virglnla-
Carolina Chemical Company and the
property of the Gate City Oil Com
pany. The line extends 1,200 feet to
the property of the Old Dominion
Guano Company, northerly 263 feet,
easterly 1,203, southerly 719. An ad
joining tract, 63 by 206 feet, in Land
Lot 131, Fourteenth District, is in
cluded.
Will Lease for Fifty Years.
Judge William T. Newman signed
an order In the United States District
Court Friday approving the lease for
50 years of a tract of railroad front
age on Js T elson street, near Mangum,
from the Georgia Terminal Company
to the Investment Company of the
South. The terms of the lease are
$2,500 for the first ten years, $3,600
for the second ten years and $4,000
for the last twenty years, or an ag
gregate rental of $140,000.
The condition is inserted that the
lessee is to erect certain warehouses
which shall be bought at the end of
the period by the Georgia Terminal
Company at the then market value.
The plot has 350 feet of frontage.
The Georgia Terminal Company is
a sort of holding company for the
A.. B. & A. Railroad, and the In
vestment Company of the South is the
concern interested in the Walker
street development.

To Bid on Comfort Station.
Local contractors are considering
the preparation of estimates on the
cost of erecting a public comfort sta
tion at the Peters Building over the
Whitehall street viaduct. L C. Green
and others who have been working
for the station think the structure
can he built for about $8,000. It is the
intention to start work January 1,
1914. The local park board had in
dorsed the project.
Comment on Deposit Plan.
Commenting on the suggestion of
Robert F. Maddox at Washington
that the Government money to be
placed in Atlanta banks will not be
used for speculative purposes, & lead
ing real estate man said:
“I know of no chance to use any of
this money in speculative transac
tions. This money is primarily for
moving the crops, and when the crops
are moved there will be plenty of
money for the real estate market.
There is no doubt about that, and the
autumn business should be unusually
good."
Mr. Maddox has been conferring
with other bankers and Secretary
McAdoo on the plan to place $50,000,-
000 in Southern and Western banks.
He is asking for $2,500,000 for At
lanta banks. The vast agricultural
sections, he points out, are easily ac
cessible to Atlanta, and it is appro
priate that Atlanta banks should
handle the money.
