WASHINGTON, Dec. 9—Much em-
.sis was laid on anti-trust prose-
ntlons In the annual report of Attor
ney General James C. McReynolds,
ubmitted to-day. The chief Gov-
rnment “trust buster" asks especlal-

lireproof building:. During: the last
ear, he says, special agents have in
vestigated an average of 36 anti-trust
I complaints. In many cases where In-'
\estigations did not lead to prosecu
tions, he declares, they impelled ofll-
cers Of big corporations to "curtail
dangerous tendencies."
Mr. McReynolds calls attention es
pecially to the convictions under the
criminal clauses of the Sherman law.
In the Cash Register case 29 were

uuo and Jail sentences for from nine to
twelve months Imposed. In the sec
ond tiial of the Bath Tub case fines
of more than $,10,000 were imposed,
m the Cotton Corner case one of the
principal defendants pleaded guilty

There are now 19 anti-thust cases
pending, of which 43 were Instituted
curing former administrations.
During the past year the work of
the department In connection with
the enforcement of the provisions of
the white slave traffic act has been
vigorously carried on." says the re
port. "From June 25. 1910 (the date
of the passage of the w hite slave traf
fic act), to September 30, 1913, there
have been 633 convictions under the
act, more than one-half of which w ere
obtained during the las: twelve
months of said period."

Mayor Floyd has caused consternation
among members of the social clubs here
bv the announcement that he will com
pel all the club proprietors to file In
his office copies of their charters and
lists of the members and will also re
quire that the names of all such mem
bers be published in the «Uy papers.
This action precedes the issuance of
city license to the clubs in order that
they may he forced to comply strictly
with the State laws and the city ordi
nance, which provides for a bond of $1.-
000 for compliance with the city ordi
nances.

CHICAGO, Dec. 9.—Chicago’s big
packing interests were named to-day
as the principal backers of the Chi
cago Butter and Egg Board. Several
large produce and commission houses
were placed in the same category and,
with the packers, were accused by the
Government of violating the Sherman
anti-trust law in conspiring to fix the
price of butter and eggs.

strong address by the Rev. Rockwell
S. Frank, at a meeting of the Protes
tant Ministers’ Union, a crusade on

BARNWELL. S. Dec 9.—Scott
Madison, a negro, has been found
guilty h?re of the murdfr of B. P.
Best. the merchant who was shot to
death on the street in Barnwell a
week ago. Madison was sentenced
to be electrocuted, and was imme
dialely taken to Columbia for safe
keeping.
Two other negroes indicted with

Robert Bedwell, a young boy, was
forced to spend the night in jail here
on a warrant sworn out by his father.
In the morning the father withdrew
