One night in August. 1894 Wood
worth arose before daylight anti*
without awakening anyone, left.
He had threatened many time* to
go to Alaska to seek his fortune, hop
ng thus to better provide for his wife
and twelve children
Woodworth was 80 when he lef'.

Two years ago he wrote that he had
staked a claim that had proven rich
and that his fortune was made. He
announced his intention of coming
home, but. he failed to come

be abolished In Georgia eventually--
just as it will be abolished every
where in the civilized world—and al
ready the sentiment against'it is very
strong. One need only listen to the
striking of a jury in a murder case in
Georgia to realize how many people
even now will not qualify because of
their opposition to this form of pun-

it is grinding all the time. It hears
arguments, then consults, and then
divides to write its opinions, which
are gone over by the court as a whole
"The present court will not sit on
Christmas Day this year but it will
come mighty near doing it!”

the bench of the Court of Appeals,
which he will do shortly, he will at
