Fourth Assistant Postmaster General

"The law allowing rural carrlcis af
ter twelve months' service fifteen cloys’
vacation with pay, Including Sundays
and holidays, became effective July 1.
The regulations under which such va
cation will be granted will be Issued
to postmasters as soon ns printed. Tho
postmasters will be authorized to grant
such leave, and carriers of over twelve
months' service, which accrues after
tho Drst day of July each year, will bo
entitled to pro rata leave of absence
with the pay of one and one.fourth
days each month during the remainder
of the fiscal yoar. Substitutes for car*
rlers on vacation will be paid for such
service at the rate-of 1800 per annum.”

Savannah, Ga., July In lower
South Carolina there were several trag
edies Wednesday. Negroes shot nnd
stabbed and all escaped arrest
Hugo 8. Egelmltch, a young white
man, was shot and Instantly killed by
Dsn Flnnlck, colored, at Molnnd.
Charles Harrison. 14-yenr-old son of
G. At. Harrison, of Beaufort county,
was taken to the Park View eanltarlum
here at noon today. It was stated at
tha sanitarium tonight that he cannot
recover. Young Harrison was shot by
Julian Mortimer, colored, according to
the boy's father, who with two aunts,
accompanied him to Savannah.
D. Green, colored, bad his throat
cut and was stabbed !n the breast and
back several times by Moss Riley,
colored, at Laasltsr’s mill, near Purya-
bury. Green Is expected to die. Riley
escaped In a boat.
About a mile from Hardee.vllle, a
in of Lewis Smlthers was shot by
Henry Hodges, a negro. He will prob
ably recover.
