afternoon James Jordan shot twice and
mortally wounded Charlie Adkins, who
had entered hla yard while under the
Influence of whisky. The shots were
Itred from a shotgun, both loads taking
effect In the abdomen. Immediately
after Ihe shooting Jordan surrendered
to lha sheriff and waa taken to Jail.

Bhreveport. La, July *.—In Ihe dis
trict court Judge Bell haa affirmed a
decision of the city court, which sends
Nick Reno, a merchant, to Jail for thir
ty days for violating the Sunday law
by selling two cigar* and a package of
tobacco on Runday.
Louisiana has a stringent Sunday
law.-but this la the first time a Jail
sentence was Imposed In any case of
the kind. Reno was convicted on his
first trial nnd fined 125 and costa and
given the Jail sentence.
A similar case Is pending against
Matthew Westmoreland, a saloon pro
prietor. *
