FLOYD CITY COURT

Rome, Ga, July 20.—There will
Introduced during the preaent term of
the general assembly a bill to amend
the act creating the city court of Floyd
county, enlarging the powers of the
same, to Increase the quallilcatlons and
compensation of the Judge of said court
and disqualifying him from practice of
law, to grant said court the same pow
er as la exercised by the superior court.
This step was decided upon by the
Rome bar several days sgo.

Fellows of Gordon Springs will be ded
icated with Imposing ceremonies.
Grand Master Max Meyerhardt, of
Rome, District Deputy S. K. Berry, of

the exercises. Grand Master Meyer-
hsrdt and Captain J. M. Jackson, of
LaFayelle, will deliver addresses In the

Nearly Kills His Wife.
Levi Dodson, a negro, has been ar
rested here and placed In Jail for at
tempting to kill hla wife.
Dodson claims that he gave hla wife
some money to settle a few debts and
she (pent It on a boat excursion. This
Infuriated him nnd he slashed her sev
eral times In the back with a knife, in
flicting wounds which may prove fatal.

daughter of Postmaster Ooodell, of

days, has been murdered and her body

Moultrie, Oa., July 20.—Rev. M.
McCollum, a well known Methodist
minister of the Thigpen district of
this county, died suddenly In the home
of Harmon Sellars, In Worth county,
yesterday. Death came suddenly, while
as sitting In a chair engaged In
conversation, and was not preceded by
nr warning, It seems.
Rev. McCollum left hla home a few
days ago to assist In a protracted meet'
Ing In. Worth, and was feeling In hla
usual health up until the day of hla
death.
His remains will be brought back to
the family cemetery In this county for
Interment.

Brunswick, Oa., July 20.—As the
four-mast schooner Robert II. Mc
Curdy, which cleared from this port
with a cargo of lumber, waa crossing
the Brunswick bar It was discovered,
that ahe was settling rapidly and waa
apparently about to sink. The cap
tain sent out a hurry-up call, but It
was soon discovered that the sea cock
had been left open, and after the vessel
had anchored and the pumps got to
working she was put to rights, and baa
now gone to sea.

Brunswick, Oa., July 20.—Edgar Fa-
dar, who shot and kilted Robert Mayo,
a negro l-tlly, on Cumberland Island,
last flunday, has had A preliminary
trial before Justice of the Peace Whet-
ford, at Woodbine, and waa released.

negro, who has always been regarded

ax, and the tetter shot him, the negro
dying about forty hours after.
Mayo has been the bully of the sec
