New York. Auk. 24.—In the cotton market
the undertone was steady at 3 imlnta lower
to higher. The pit element acemed to be
fairly well evened up, and n little bull sup
port brought a quick responup, prices ad-
muring 4 to 6 points over yesterday’s close.
Liverpool was due to come unchnnger this
morning, but Instead llrst prices were 1 to 2
points down on futures, while spot quota
tions showed a loss of 6 points, making mid
dling 6.29d. The futures ut close were 4
points.
Now York wits (regular at the openlug,
first prices being 3 points lower to 2 points
higher, but on some unfavorable crop re
ports and light hull support prices soon
started upward—December, after selling at
8.9o. sold up to 9.16.
The advance brought out profit-taking
sales on which n slump of n few points took
place. Mitchell and Dick Bros, offering the
market down, tfalos of the latter were
thought to be for Price.
At mid-day the market was dull with
fluctuations covering n narrow range.

tory. Our reports from southeast Missouri,
n Wte river, Arkansas river, south Arkan
sas and the Heleua districts are generally
very good, particularly for the uplands. We
hear of a few complaints about shedding
and sharpshooters in the bottom lands, lint
nothing at all of a serious character, and
could only be expected with so much iuqIs-
ture In the ground. The plant Is now In
the critical period, but the consensus of
opinion from our best-informed people over
our entire territory is that with ouly nor
mal conditions during September n good-
sited crop Is at this writing practically as
sured.

The Chicago Inter-Ocean: Hales of cash
grain In Chicago were 150,000 bushels <»f
wheat. 250,000 bushels of Corn, and 140,-
000 oats.
Seaboard sales were 200,0)0 wheat and

It la Impossible to get kind of
news about the northwestern wheat crop.
There’ were reports of gu<sl yields from
the threshers; also, numerous claims of
poor ones. Hnltis over part of the north
west have delayed harvesting, amt If con
tinued are expected to retard the move
ment of the new crop. In the face of
these variegated reports, Mlneapolls re
ceived 26 cars of wheat yesterday which
graded No. 1 ami No. 2 northern. The
N’«x 2 northern sold ut 34$c over Meptetn-
her nnd the No. 2 at 2c over.
Kansan City millers nnd Missouri millets
were lu the Kansas City market yesterday
with prlees lc higher: No. 2 97(170. and
No. 2 hard nt 6Hc. There were sales Into
Wednesday of 175,000 bushels.

at 70G'71H<‘ for No. 2 red. Despite the
heavy marketing of whiter wheat sln«*e
July J, Hr. Louis Inis only received 6,250,-
000 bushels or 1,799,000 bushels It*** than
