aponse to the official notification of the
district committee of the nomination
for congress conferred upon him by
the recept convention, Hon. Thomas M
Bell has Issued the following letter oi
acceptance:
“Messrs. A. 8. Hardy, James v. Keith,
J. 8. Adams, Samuel Craig, Dr. John
H. Hockcnhull.
“Gentlemen: I am In receipt of your
letter, under date of August 30, 1904
notifying me of my nomination as the
Democratic candidate for the sixtieth
congress for the Ninth district.
Thanks People of District.
“In reply, allow me to thank you
and the people of this district through
you for this manifestation of confi*
dence.
“I appreciate the honor conferrtd
upon me and accept the nomination
with the full realization of the respon
sibility resting upon me as the chosen
standard bearer of the greatest politl-
cal party on earth. The greatest, not
because of Its successes, but because
of its principles which are so well
founded, protecting the weak from the
tyranny of the strong, the poor from
the oppression of the rich, and the
honest workingman from the ravages
of the artful grafter.
“The Democratic party Is a friend
to the poor man, the farmer, the la.
borer, the merchant, the professional
man, who believes In fair dealing, with
equal rights to all and Individual re-
sponsiblllty.
“The fundamental principles underly
ing this great political party will ulti
mately obtain because of Its defense of
human rights and liberties. Its purpost
to prevent great corporations and cor-
porate Influences and trusts from
grinding the wage earner to poverty,
and Its belief that no man should live
by the sweat of another man’s brow.
