THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN.
SATTRDAV. SEPTEMBER 3, 199A
APPLICATIONS FOR SALOON LICENSES.
The Georgian has accepted these advertisements and prints them because the City Council,
under ordinance, directs that they appear in ail daily papers, and we believe it best that all
should know who the applicants for license are and where they propose to conduct saloons.
We can not consistently accept pay for them,, and they are printed gratis. We feel that this
explanation is due the public.

seemed to have the preliminary decis

was met at the train by a deputa

waa badly apllt by the four-cornered
fight, and that they Intended putting
him In nomination to aettle the matter.
Ho old them that he wna not a can
didate and would not make tho race,
but that he would not decline If elected.
Bo the convention went on with Its
routine, the unofgclal fight for votea
absorbing all the Interest.
The night before the final and elec

the biggest (tre department In the
world, came to the Atlantan and told
him that he woutd withdraw In Joy
ner's favor.
"Much obliged." said the chief, "but
I’m not a candidate."
A little while later Bronson made the
aame offer.
He got the same answer.
Then came Canterbery, who said he
had had enough of It and was out of
the race.
When nomination* were called some
one placed before the convention the
name of Chief Humphries, of Pittsburg.
He arose Immediately and withdrew It.
Then Chief Joyner was elected by ac
clamation.

Harry, 19, and Ralph, 17. Richard was

Is employed In the local office of the

Now, when you come to writing the
personal side of Chief Joyner there Is
one feature that overshadows all oth
ers. It fs the relationship existing be
tween him and his four sons. He is
no mere father to them. He Is much
more. He Is their companion, their
chum, their "pal.” They regard him
as their most Interesting playmate,
their closest friend. Wherever Chief
Joyner goes on pleasure some one, or
nil four, go with him; when one of
them wants to go to the show or else
where on pleasure bent, he always
goes to get his father to go with him.
They are bright, manly hoys, ns
full of personal courage and as square
and honest aa their father has nlways
been.
