BIG CORPORATIONS IN TIME
Corporations woke up Wednesday.
Several of them also routed the sec
retary of state out of a warm "bed
Tuesday night.
So anxious did some of them become
to duck that $50 penalty that applies
after Wednesday, that they began fir
ing returns hnd dollar bills at the see-*
retary by registered mall.
Secretary Cook’s willing to stay at
his office in th#*capltol all day, but he
does insist on gofng home ut night.
So, findings the capital all dark and
abandoned Tuesday night, Uncle Sam's
•pedal delivery messengers hunted
out the Cook domicile.
First one came at 11 o’clock, and
after clanging the door bell until half
the neighbors were up to see the trouble,
Secretary Cook went down to tee what
sort of a cataclasm had taken place.
He was handed a registered com
munication, containing a corporation

A Stream of Dollars.
But the grand rush began at hi*
office in the capltol early Wednesday
morning. A steady stream of Atlan
tans hurried in with properly filled
blanks and dollar bills.
“See by last night’s *>apers thalf this
Is the last day, so register me quick,”
said one excited individual.
And the postman was almost stag
gering with his burden of mail for the
secretary of state. Nearly every letter
contained u dollar, many several dol
lars. , , .
Indications are that by 4 o clock
Wednesday afternoon the total number
of registrations will reach -3,000.
