SIX ENTOMBED MINERS
ARE DOOMED TO DEATH
Bakersfield, Cal., Dec. 11.—The six
miners who are entomoed In the Edison
Electric Company's shaft at Kern river
canyon, were still alive at 11 o’clock
yesterday, uccordlng to the story of a
miner who arrived here today. The en
tombed men have been making signals
on the rails, which are plainly heard
by the rescuing party.
Experienced miners say It Is Impos-
sftile to rescue the men alive, as «t
would require weeks to remove the de
bris between , the bottom of the shaft
and the place where the miners are.
The men have plenty of water, as
one of the water pipes passes directly
through the place where they were
caught by the eave-ln. but their food
must have lieen exhausted long ago,
as they only took their regular lunch
on their last trip Into the workings.
