The Liverpool market Thursday morning
was n shade lower than due in the fu
tures department. The market was feature
less all session, the close being quiet 4
point higher 'to 14 points lower.

In spots, a good business was done at 3
points advance. Sales aggregated 12,000
bales.
The New York market Vas not active,
traders showing a disposition to await the
publication of the ginners’ report of the
amount of cotton ginned up to December
13, to be Issued at 2 o'clock. The tendency
was downward during the early trading,
and December sold below 9c. The heavy
movement was the depressing factor, thorn
being some doubt os to whether the ro-
port would be bearish or bullish.
The New York Commercial says:
"It was a dull market during most of
the day Tuesday, although during the early
tradlug there was some active hammering
by a crowd of floor brokers. The continued

The statistical bureau of Waco, Tex.,
which Is said to be an outgrowth of the
Cotton Buyers’ Association, ts said to have

"Throughont the bleached goods division
of the primary innrket Tuesday changes In

It Is commonly believed In the market

THE COFFEE MARKET.
New York, Dec. 20,—The coffee mar*
ket opened steady at unchanged prices
to an advance of 5 points and ruled
steady to ftrm during the middle ses
sion with trading active and sales about
10 points over the final prices of last
night. Importers seemed to be buying,
and It was said that higher firm or
ders were being received from Hraxll.
Receipts at Santo Paulo points were a
shade lighter and press dispatches from
Rio stated that shipments were being
tied up by a strike among stevedores.
Receipts nt the two ports for the day
were 74,000 bags, against 83,000 the.
previous day and 32,000 last year.

during the first hour and gains were
made In practically everything on the
list. The general Impression was that
whatever liquidation has been neces
sary because of exhausted margins
covered before inld-day yesterday and
from then on It was a cold-out market.
Room traders committed to the
side continued to put out large lines for
short account, but there was enough
buying to absorb all the supply and
demand became more general as th-
hour progressed. London traded both
ways, purchases slightly exceeding
sales, the total transactions being lest
than 20,000 shares.
