William A. Davla was ope of the
most prominent business men In Bibb
county, and was born on a farm eight
miles east of thla city, April 4, 1147.

gla battalion of cavalry, aa a private,
and later was made orderly sergeant,
serving as such until the surrender. He

Friend of Schools.
After the cessation of hostilities, he
resumed hla studies at the Academy at
Allentown, Twlgga county, and then re
turned to his home In Bibb county,
being called there by the death of his
falher. He managed the homestead
from 1444 to 1477, during which period
he wua elected to represent Twlgga
county In the general assembly,'During
this session he served with distinction

Captain Davis also represented Bibb

He was a member of the la»t legisla
ture and rendered good servlet to hit
people and Ills elate.
Mr. Davis was elected aldermen
fiuni three different wards In Macon,
serving six years In all In city council
and for four years of that time he act
ed aa mayor pro tern. He was also
toad commissioner from hie district
for several years. In 1444 lie cam* to
Macon and live years later. In companv
with M. C. Balkcont, engaged In the
business of handling Colton.
High Degree Mason.
Captain 'Davis was a thirty-second
degree Mason and a Mystic Bhrlner.
He was also a past gmnd master of
the arand Dodge of Masons of Oeoigia
and waa looked upon tt one of the'
moat apt and useful men that ever held
the office. He has held all the principal
