A CARD
To till Public-
The undersigned, t'onductors of the
Western It Atlantic Railroad, feel it to be
a solemn duty to the people of Georgia
whose servant, they -are, end in Justice to
their own outraged characters, to vindicate
Riemeeires from a disgraceful charge which
has bran made against them by 0 li. Hill
now a candidate for the office of Gover
nor in this State.
YVe had heard f.om rumor for sereral
weeks back that this individual had accused
tha conductors of this Road of the heinous
corruption of passing Democratic favorites
ever the lino -if they had “a mus mark
upon their halt. 1 ' But Itis party friends
having dented that such a charge was ever
made, we were content to leave the matter
where it was. But since that time—tho
evidence that such a charge has boeumnde
by B. H. Hill-has daily increased. The
following card published in the Constitu
tionalist confirms it:
•‘The Crus* on Their Hull.”
YVe have seen il referred to in papers of
the Slate, that the Hon. 11. II. Hill, in
tome of his public speeches, had stated
that all persons wlm expressed a willing
ness re vote for
the Democratic
were permitted
free of charge; and that all who had
cross mark on their hat, " were recogniacd
as good Democrats, and were passed free
of charge over the whole length, or a 1 y
portion of the State Road.
We were prepared to hear extravagant
teports, of all kinds fro 11 the opposition
party, but we did not expect to hear, any-1
thtngsocontemptlbleanaulterly unfounded I
as such statements from Mr. 1). H. Hill, j

Sept. 31st, 1157. ( 1
Mr. Editor: At a public meeting, at,
Ouo! Spring, YY'ilkinson, Georgia, tho Hon
B. H. Hill asserted that “if any man, Do- j

for Judge loseph U. Brown, on the firs' |
Monday in October next, he could ride over j
the Stale road free of charge.” That a prop
osition had been made to him, to the tol* j
lowing effect: “ if he would promise to
retain the present incumbent, in office, it

votes, up and down the road," and that
