Are* Said To Be on Verge of Rup

Joes from Panama relations between

LIVED WITHOUT A BRAIN.
Autopsy at Dellevue Hospital Reveals
Remarkable Case.
New York, Aug. 4. —Asa refutation
tf the axiom that no human b.Ug
can live without a brain,
cians of Bellevue hospital are citing
the care of Marie Gaicamo who died
at the institution Monday night.
An autopsy revealed the fact that
the had ccme into the world practical,
ly brainless. The child, when seven
hours old, yvas taken to the hospital
by her father, Leonardo Gaicomo. lie
said he had brought the child'for treat
ment because there was something
wrong with its head.
When tlie child was unwrapped from
voluminous clothes it was almost a
startling sight. Its head was almost
fiat on rop and its eyes stood out from
their sockets. It was, however, still
breathing normally and cried as an
ordinary infant does. Unlike most in
fanta, less than * day eld, it took
nourishment greedily.
It was thought at the hospital that
the shape of the child’s head was a
malformation. It was not dreamed
infant was wholly without
brain matter.
Monday night, however, the child
died while it was being fed. There was
nothing to indicate approaching death
and no struggle. Simply the infant
ceased to breath. An autopsy reveal
ed that beyond a rudimentary cerebrum
that was scarcely more than an indi
cation, the infant had adsolutely no
brain.
