command gave "the boys in blue" renewed

when a d-asn union musleeia compelled the
rider to dismount, and the animal was as

count as related by Dr. Terry, was about in

"General Johnston fell a victim to liis liu
inanity. The federal, were In fall retreat,
and the general riding to the front, when he
came across a squad of woudned federal
Midlers and ntlieers. Stopping, he kindly ad
dressed them and asked If any ol them were
badly wounded. Then turning to hta atatl lie
remarked: 'It nearly broke my heart to see

tioned in catutu near Vicksburg, Miss., we
were frequently called off on picket duty np
