Due to the lateness of the season
it will he well for farmers to >4de
dress cotton with nitrate of soda or
some other quick acting ammoniute.
We do not know what the boll wevil
will do and a side dressing of seven
ty-five to one hundred pounds of a
quick acting nitrogen will do a lot
toward getting a crop set early, if we
could call any crop early this season.
Even cotton that was planted early
will be late because of adverse weath
er condition; retarding grow h. The
nitrate of soda mould be applied just
as soon after chopping as it is pond-
so. certainly by the first
nd before if possible.
Weevils are already beginning to
crawl around no every body had bet
ter get all set to poison early. In
the early days of the boll weevil the
plan was to start poinsoning when in
festation reached ten per cent. Ex
perience has taught us tha the host

first appears regr.rdlesw of the per
cent of infestation. A good plan to
follow is to put on the firs: applica
tion ten days before the first squares
appear, folowing with the second and
third applications about a week apart.
Usually by this time all weevils will
he ou of winter quarters .and will
have been brought under control.
Either dust or liquid poison may be
used but the poison mu-t be put in
the buds of the plants if results are
expected from early poisonings.
LaUr applications must be made with
a dust gun as the entire plant must
be covered if results arc expected,
