THE LITERARY GUILD PICTURES
CHRISTMAS IN OLD ENGLAND
The log hut in Government Square
was the scene of a beautiful Christ
mas entertainment on Monday even
ing. Miss Winifred Crowell directs
tie uctivitcs of the Guild and the
college girls revived old Christmas
scenes of Merric England.
The yule log was brought in with
rejoicings and the yule-<tide dong.
There was the capacious fire place to
hold it. Though it burned brightly,
it jemed big enough to last for a
whole week as yule logs used to do
in Englend.
The traits sang their beautiful
Christmas carols outside a- wtss the
ancient custom, and prettily dressed
maid, hung the Christmas greens.
The big wassail bowl and the
crowned boar’s head were brought in
with great rejoicings to be enjoyed at
the Christmas feast.
The wonderful Christmas pic was
served also, which looked like and
tatted like good modern.fruit cake.
At the close of the evening the
carols were again sung and the love
ly Christmas program was at on end.

STRAWBERRIES IN MIAMI
(Miami Herald)
Thn first quart of strawberries har
vested in the Metropolitan Miami
area brought to the attention of The
Back Country department of The
Herald this season was reported
Tuesday of the past week by E. G.
Folds, grown and picked by Mr. Folbs
fron. his eighth of an acre patch at
N. W. Twenty-first street and fif
teenth avenue, in the old Allapattah
section, Sunday, December 1.
Thi- first quart was not sold as is
usually the case but the berries were
eaten by Mr. Folds and his family.
He adds that he enjoyed the first
two dishes of berries from this same
patch on Thanksgiving day. These
berries are of the Missionary variety.
They were set out early in Septem
ber and went through the storm. Mr.
Folds' ground did not overflow, how
ever. and the plants came through
with but slight damage. They now
have on a fairly prolific bloom and
promise a good yield.
