REMARKS.
COTTON—has come in very freely for tho
past neck, and sales iiave ranged from 8 a 9 cents.
Within the last few days, the-principal sales have
been effected at Bj. .Strictly prime in square
bales, would go a shado higher. Many of our
planters have refused selling at the present rates,
auljhave stored their cotton in anticipation of
better prices. The whole amount at the ware,
bouses may bo estimated at about 2000 bates.
Tho lato rains have been sufficient to effect a
considerable rise in our river, and we are hourly
looking for the.arrival of somo of lire numerous
boats which have boon detained in consequence of
the excessive drought. Our country frirends
way therefore calculate on finding, within a very
sow days, our market well stocked with ail tho sta.
pic articles of trade and at prices greatly redu
ced, from our present list, which of conrsc arc
arranged in reference to previous sales.
Mobile, Dec. 4.
Cotton, for tho past week has ranged from
toll cents.'
New-Okie ass, N0v.27.
Since our last report there has been nbout 4000
biles sold, at a reduction generally of about 12
a cent per lb. '1 he sales to this ime have been
principally to fill orders for the northern maikets,
which new being near or about satisfied, leaves
the demand very much confined to those who aie
more particularly engaged in the european trade.
!u consequence, prices liavo declined, and the
market is comparatively dull; so much so, that a
further reduction is demanded, 4- bv many confi
dently expected; indeed nous but the host will
now command our quotations, and any thing over
II cents is with difficulty obtained, unless it bo o
vory superior quality. According to the Liver
pool classification, corrected from last sales; we
quote middling 10 cents, fair 10 a 10 1-2, good
fair 10 3-4 a 11, good and fine 11 1-4 a 11 1-2
Avgusta, Dec. 4.
Cotton—Arrives freely, and sales are made at
3 1-2 to 10 1-4 cents. The general sales from
ttagons, averages but little if any over 9 conts-
Planter* generally arc storing their cotton ami
Intend waiting for higher rates.
Savannah, Dec. 4
Cotjos—Since our last, uplands lias decl.ned
1-2 to] cent, and v.e reduco our quotations to
moot lire market prices. The demand lias been
steady during the week, and the sales amount to
2nl'o to 4000 bales, at prices ranging from 8 3 1
to 11 cents, principal sales 9 12a 10 1-4 cents.
•
Charleston, Dec 4.
Cotton —There has been a fair business done
i ;l upiands . this week at our quotations The
market appears firm, and we are of opinion that
prices are li) ely to remain steady, unless some
more, unfavorable accounts from Europe shotl'd
bo received, which wo do not calculate on, at
least for some time Wo quote at 9a 10 1-2.
