Middle School Plans 4-Hour
Newsprint Drive As Fund-Raiser
Students at Commerce
Middle School, with the help of
Applegate Insulation and Mulch,
plan to put money back into the
community.
The company will purchase
newsprint collected by the stu
dents, and recycle the waste
by making cellulose insulation.
As a result, Applegate enables
school organizations to raise
money.
Starting Saturday, Dec. 8, at 9:00
a.m., Commerce Middle School
will be collecting old newspapers
as a fund-raising project.
Residents can drop off their
newspapers at the school,
located at 7690 Jefferson Road,
Commerce, until 1:00 p.m.
Recycling newspapers is an
excellent way to preserve the
environment and for the school
to raise money. According to
Thomas Recycling, recycling
one ton of paper saves 17 trees
and 3.06 cubic yards of landfill
space
The Thomas Recycling web
site also reports: “If all morn
ing newspapers read around the
country were recycled, 41,000
trees would be saved daily and
6 million tons of waste would
never end up in landfills.”
To find out more about the
paper drive, contact Cheryl
Cook at Commerce Middle
School, 335-5594 ext. 114.
