Study Native Americans
Second graders at Maysville Elementary School
visited Touch the Earth with Native Americans.
Students watched demonstrations by authentic
Native Americans. They saw dances performed
in colorful costumes, live buffalo and learned
how Native Americans used every part of them
to live, learned about animals native to Georgia,
authentic teepees, and many other things relat
ed to daily life of the Native Americans. Left to
right are Mary Grace Garmon, Brianna Dalton,
Joseph Sims, Nick Smith, Jerimiah Crumley,
Alex Doss and Mason Reid.

Dream-Come-True:
A Dental Practice
Located In Hawaii
Moving across the Pacific
Ocean was something Summer
Wood and her husband, Ryan,
only dreamed about, but after
the Medical College of Geor
gia School of Dentistry alumna
graduated in May, it was time to
get serious.
“We had joked about moving to
Hawaii for the past four years,”
Dr. Wood says. “We had already
visited my brother, Clint, there
several times and fell in love with
it, so after I graduated, we decid
ed to take the plunge and move.”
The Commerce native practic
es general dentistry in Honolulu.
“The greatest thing about my ca
reer is my patients and getting to
know them,” says Dr. Wood. “I so
enjoy being a part of (their) lives.
And knowing that what I do for
them adds to the quality of their
lives is so rewarding.”
Dr. Wood credits MCG with
her rewarding career.
“My experience at MCG was
absolutely awesome,” she says.
“Our professors prepared us to
take care of patients in a way
that looks at the whole person,
not just their mouths. I can’t say
Summer Tolbert Wood
enough about the dental educa
tion I received there.”
Dr. Wood earned a bachelor’s
degree in biology from Georgia
Southern University in 1998. She
is a 1995 graduate of Commerce
High School. She is the daugh
ter of Bobby and Paula Tolbert
and wife of Ryan Wood, all of
Commerce. Her grandparents
are O.R. and Gladys Cochran of
Maysville, and the late Warren
“Red” and Eva Tolbert, formerly
of Commerce.
