Red Cross Offers CPR/AED Training
The East Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross is offer
ing a CPR/AED for the professional rescuer training on Saturday,
Jan. 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Fire Station #3, 1198 South
Milledge Avenue, Athens.
The class is designed for lifeguards, police officers, nurses and
other health care professionals.
Participants will learn how to: care for conscious and uncon
scious choking victims; care for adult, childs and infant victims of
breathing and cardiac emergencies; two-rescuer CPR; use of resus
citation and bag-valve masks; how to use Automated External
Defibrillators (AEDs); and how to avoid blood-borne pathogen
exposure. CPR/AED for the professional rescuer course from the
American Red Cross reflects the latest in life-saving techniques
and information and meets Emergency Cardiovascular Care 2000
Guidelines.
There will be a one-hour break for lunch. The fee is $65 and is
open to the general public.

UGA To Host Statewide Farm Forecast
Anyone who wants the latest information about crop prices,
pending U.S. farm and energy policies, weather forecasts or
water conservation should attend at a meeting planned in
Gainesville, according to organizers.
The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and
Environmental Sciences will host its second annual Ag Forecast
Breakfast Series Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 7-10 a.m. in Gainesville.
Participants will hear from farm experts and get to ask them
questions. They’ll receive the 2008 Agricultural Price and Profit
Planning Book, a detailed analysis of each major Georgia prod
uct, and get breakfast, too.
Co-sponsors are Georgia Farm Bureau, Georgia Department of
Agriculture and the Georgia Agribusiness Council.
Registration costs $35 per person or $250 for a table of eight.

The Learning in Retirement group will meet Monday, Jan. 14, at
