New Faith Youth
Group To Sell Stew
The New Faith youth depart
ment will be selling stew on
Friday Jan. 25, and Saturday Jan.
26, at the New Faith Methodist
Church, located at 402 MLK Jr.
Drive, Commerce.
The cost is $3 for a pint and
$6 for a quart. The recipe is one
formerly used by Loyd Smith.
Reservations may be made by

'Jubilee 7 To Be
Held Friday
Maysville United Methodist
Church will hold its “Fourth
Friday Night Jubilee" on Jan. 25,
at 7 p.m.
The jubilee is “for all pickers,
singers and folks who enjoy good
gospel music," organizers stated.
“We encourage all pickers and
singers to join us," they added.
There is no admission charge
and food is available.
The jubilee will be held at
the church’s annex (also called
Strickland Hall), located at 8595
Hwy. 98, south of Maysville at
the intersection of Spur 82 and
Hwy. 98.

To Meet At Cedar
Grove Tues., Thurs.
Cedar Grove Methodist
Church, Jefferson, will hold a
walking exercise class Tuesday
and Thursday nights from 7 to
8 p.m. in the church fellowship
hall.
The first 15 minutes of each
meeting will be devoted to good
eating habits including heart
healthy recipes.
The cost of the class is $20 per
month to cover the cost of utility
bills. All proceeds will benefit
the church.

Youth To Aid In
1,000 Wells Effort
Youth of the Jefferson First
United Methodist Church are
involved in “The 1,000 Wells
Project," it has been announced.
The project ties in with an
Athens group’s campaign to
repair and construct 1,000 new
wells in Africa. Clean water is a
great need there, it was stated.
There are two ways one can
help, says the youth minister,
Spencer Arnold. One, a direct
financial donation may be made.
Or two, one can participate in
a two-week fast of sacrifice by
committing to making water
one’s only beverage, then taking
the money that would have been
spent on other beverages and
give that sum to the project.
Anyone who wishes may help
in the project, said the minister.
Nicholson Youth
To Sell Pancakes
Nicholson Baptist Churchyouth
will be hosting a pancake supper
Saturday, January 26, from 5:30
p.m. to 8 p.m. to help earn fund
ing for their mission trip to the
Dominican Republic scheduled
this summer.

Chili Luncheon
Ahead Sunday
Homer United Methodist
Church’s “Relay for Life" team
will host a chili lunch on Sunday,
Jan. 27, at 12:15 p.m., in the church
fellowship hall on behalf of the
American Cancer Society.
Hot dogs will be available for
children who do not prefer chili.
The cost will be $5 per person.
Children three and under will
eat free.

Establishes Fund
Homer United Methodist
Church has established a special
fund to assist a young college
student, Brittany Hellmeister,
who has been diagnosed with
anorexia nervosa, a serious eat
ing disorder which affects a num
ber of teenage girls.
Hellmeister has entered an
intensive outpatient treatment
facility in Gwinnett County.
While 92 percent of insurance
companies in the United State
recognize anorexia nervosa as a
serious emotional disease, none
cover expenses for eating disor
ders.
Donations to assist Hellmeister
should be made out to: Homer
United Methodist Church, desig
nate “Brittany Fund," and mailed
to P.O. Box 37, Homer, Ga. 30547.
Gifts of any size are greatly
needed and deeply appreciated,
according to church organizers.
Brotherhood Group
To Meet Feb. 3
The Community Brotherhood
will meet on Sunday, Feb. 3, at
7:30 a.m., for a monthly break
fast program always held in the
fellowship hall of Homer United
Methodist Church.
A local Baptist minister, the
Rev. Roy Rogers, is president
of the group made up mostly
of laymen from Banks County
churches.
The Rev. Jim McLendon, pas
tor at Homer UMC, serves as
program chairman. The church
is located one block east of
Veterans Memorial Park in down
town Homer.
The organization extends an
invitation to all men in the area
who may be interested. Preparing
the meal in February will be
those members who signed up at
last month’s meeting.
Benefit Singing
Planned Feb. 2
A benefit singing will be held
Saturday, February 2, at 6 p.m.
at the Jaemore Barn, located at
Jaemore Farm Market on Hwy.
365 in Alto.
Featured singers will be The
Lord’s Messengers, The Goss
Brothers and The New Bryants.
A love offering will be received
during the singing. A meal will
be served to any one making a
donation.
All proceeds will go to the food
ministry of Enon Baptist Church,
Alto.
