Honors Its
Top Members

Volunteers and businesses were
recognized Thursday night at the
annual awards banquet of the
Jackson County Area Chamber
of Commerce.
Linda Foster received the
Chairman’s Award for her ser
vice to the organization. Outgoing
chairman Jim Yarbrough present
ed this award.
“Throughout this year, we
have challenges,” Yarbrough
said. “Linda took on additional
responsibility. She helped keep
our expenses down ... She is very
deserving.”
Teresa Vaughn Smith received
the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Chamber President Shane Short
presented the award.
'This award is being presented
to an individual who has been
there time after time supporting
the chamber,” Short said. “For a
number of years, this person has
stepped up to the plate to help
us.”
Yarbrough received the Citizen
of the Year Award. Past recipi
ent Mark Bradley presented the
award.
“I got a typed bio about this per
son from an employee,” Bradley
said. “On the bottom, there was
something handwritten that
spoke volumes. It said, 'A great
boss, fair and honest, a great role
model for employees.’ That says
it all.”
Living Jackson was named the
Small Business of the Year. Past
recipient Barbara Reid presented
the award to Living Jackson pub
lisher Roxane Rose and assistant
editor Joshua Barnett.
'The 2008 Small Business of the
Year has become a very visible
part of our community in only a
few short years,” Reid said. “This
business has also made its mark
in community service...They are
ready to roll up their sleeves and
pitch in with community ser
vice.”
Buhler Quality Yarn was named
the Large Business of the Year
Award. Werner Bieri of Buhler
Yarn accepted the award from
past recipient Pete Staton.
'This year’s recipient is very
active and involved in the Jackson
County Chamber of Commerce,”
Staton said.
Luther Wilkes received the
William H. Booth Award. Peter
Dorsey, representing last year’s
recipient, the late Dorsey Guthrie,
presented the award.
'This recipient has touched the
lives of many people in this coun
ty,” he said.
Ingles Moves
Store Opening
To Mid-March
The date for the opening of the
new Ingles supermarket on Georgia
Highway 334 has been advanced.
According to David Zellner,
Commerce’s director of planning
and development, the new date is
March 15.
The floor tile has been installed,
freezer installation is under way,
the base of the parking lot is com
pleted and the contractor is ready
to pave the parking lot once the
weather is suitable.
The project includes a pharmacy
with a drive-through window, and a
free-standing gas station.
