United Way Campaign Comes
In Slightly Under $ 75,000 Goal
Mended Hearts Announces
Pair Of $500 Scholarships
Jackson County’s 2007 “Light
the Way’’ United Way Campaign
raised $68,328 for agencies pro
viding services to county resi
dents, nearly $6,000 less than
the campaign goal of $75,000.
“We appreciate every contribu
tion that was made to the cam
paign, and every company that
participated,’’ said campaign
chair Gina Mitsdarffer. “We have
worked hard to increase con
tributions because United Way
agencies provide more services
to our residents than are cov
ered by the money we raise. The
agencies supported by United
Way depend on those funds to
operate.’’
In 2006, 15,508 Jackson
County residents were served
by United Way agencies that
included the American Red
Cross, Council on Aging, Food
Bank of Northeast Georgia,
Sexual Assault Center, the Tree
House, Project Safe and Jackson
Creative Community Resource.
During the 2007 campaign,
local businesses and individu
als sold United Way “Light the
Way’’ flashlights. Individuals
and businesses in Jackson
County sold 114 flashlights,
raising an additional $570 for
the campaign.
“We’d like to thank the com
panies and organizations that
participated in the campaign,
and recognize them for their
support,’’ Mitsdarffer said.
Participants included Alltel
Georgia, Caterpillar, Choo
Choo Build It Mart, Commerce
City Schools, Haverty’s,
Hometown Community Bank,
Jackson County Board of
Commissioners, Jackson EMC,
Jefferson City Schools, Kinney
& Sons, Kroger, Quik N Tasty
Foods, Shiloh Industries and
