Commerce Splits Match With Oglethorpe
Tigers Take Second In Habersham
By Brandon Reed
It was a pretty good week
for Commerce’s golf teams, as
the boys defeated Oglethorpe
County 158 - 201, while the girls
fell just short of Oglethorpe,
which defeated them 95-105.
For the boys, Taylor Gary shot
a 33, which ties a school record.
Sam Purcell shot a 41, while
Hamp Gary and Casey Drinkard
both shot 42s. Others scorers
include Colton Dean with a 47,
and Adam Hanley with a 50.
“Taylor played a great nine
holes," said Commerce golf
coach David Stephenson. “He
made five birdies. He is capa
ble of going lower. I was very
proud for him. Sam Purcell also
played well. His swing is much
improved since last year and
he is starting to get his timing.
Hamp and Casey played steady
golf but both will score lower as
the season progresses. They are
hitting the ball great."
For the girls, Chelsey Cain
shot a 49, Callie Adams shot a
56, Camille Blair shot a 60, and
Anna Marie Hooper shot a 67.
“Chelsey played very well,"
Stephenson said. “Her scores
continue to drop. I am hoping
we can break 100 soon. The girls
are working hard.”
The Tigers were next sched
uled to take on Cedar Shoals
and Lakeview at Double Oaks
Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.
Results were unavailable at press
time.
