Library's Plant Swap & Sale Is Saturday
The Commerce Public Library’s
annual Spring Plant Swap and
Sale, set for this Saturday from
10 a.m. to noon, will have unique
features this time.
One is a detailed program in
the meeting room on “Gardening
in the Drought," offered by land
scapers Jacque and Ron Craven
at 10:15.
Another is the opportunity to
purchase container gardens, herb
gardens and “Easter baskets" of
spring plants, already “hardened
off" and ready for duty on porch
es, decks and patios.
The third (and perhaps most
unique) is the chance to purchase
some gourmet vegetables — col-
lards, turnips and Italian parsley
— along with recipes and even a
taste of the results.
Gardeners, be assured: there
will also be the chance to swap
bulbs, seeds, cuttings, roots, seed
lings, and whole plants. “No one
will leave empty-handed — unless
they just want to," says Mamata
Shetty, president of the Friends of
the Library, which sponsors this
annual favorite event. “We hope
lots of people will stop by after the
Easter parade and see what we’re
up to. This is always one of our
most fun activities."
Egg Hunt Thursday
The library will host its annual
Easter Egg Hunt Thursday at 4:00
for children 10 and under. The
Easter Bunny will be present.
Parents should arrive early to
find parking nearby because the
back parking lot will be roped off
for the egg hunt.
Children should bring baskets
for the eggs, but the library will
have bags available for those who
do not have baskets.
Tax Help For Seniors
Seniors who wish to file for a
tax rebate this year can get an
assist from library volunteer Joe
Fenn, who will be at the library
Wednesday, March 26, from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. for just this pur
pose.
Fenn will not be doing any regu
lar tax returns — he will only be
helping those who do not normal
ly have to file, but would like to get
the rebate the federal government
is promising for this year.
All who wish to get his help
should come to the library March
26 between 10 and 2, and bring
their SSA 1099 form — plus a 1099
from their pension plan, if they
have one. No appointment will be
necessary.
New Titles On
The Library Shelves
Mystery fans will want to chill
with Patricia MacDonald’s “Stolen
in the Night" (a gripping nail-biter
in the tradition of Mary Higgins
Clark), Karin Slaughter’s “Beyond
Reach" and Joanne Fluke’s “Carrot
Cake Murder" (which has recipes!).
Fiction lovers should check out
Therese Fowler’s “Souvenir," and
non-fiction fans should have a
look at Steve Martin’s memoir,
“Born Standing Up: A Comic’s
Life" or at Dr. John Gray’s latest
Mars & Venus salvo, “Why Mars
& Venus Collide."
