Lady Eagles Defeat Franklin County
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson girls’ soccer team picked up its second victory of
the season last week, beating Franklin County. The Fady Eagles then
went on to lose a competitive game to Oglethorpe County later in the
week.
East Jackson will face off against Hart County on Thursday on the
road. Match time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Fady Eagles traveled to Franklin County last Tuesday to face the
Fions. Defender Katie McEver and midfielder Dakota Chandler both
had a stop on a goal attempt by Franklin County, while keepers Farisa
Cozzens and Abby Adams worked to prevent any Fion goals.
Forward Jazmin Flores scored with an assist from Aubrey Cozzens
and Dakota Chandler. Flores would later make the Fady Eagles’ sec
ond goal, and East Jackson would go on to shut out the Fions 2-0.
On Thursday, the Fady Eagles were again on the road, this time
to Oglethorpe County to face the Patriots. East Jackson started out
strong, taking a 2-1 lead in the first half. Cassie Mull scored the first
goal for East Jackson with an assist by Aubrey Cozzens. Kayla Sipes
scored the second on a penalty kick after being fouled.
East Jackson started the second half strong as well, but a few break
aways by the Patriots allowed them to take the lead. Sipes would score
again for the Fady Eagles in the second half, but Oglethorpe held off
East Jackson to win 6-3.
The Fady Eagles were next scheduled to host Fakeview Academy
Tuesday night. Results from that match were unavailable at press
time.

Eagles To Host Dawson Co. April 3
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson Eagles soc
cer team continues to search
for its first victory of the season
after losing to Franklin County
and Oglethorpe County last
week.
The Eagles will travel to Jackson
County to face the Panthers on
April 3. Start time is scheduled
for 7 p.m.
East Jackson traveled to
Franklin County last Tuesday
to face the Fions, who entered
the game with only one loss on
the season. The result was a 4-2
loss for the Eagles, with Ricardo
Zaragoza and Iliya Bindyu scor
ing East Jackson’s two goals.
Coach Matt Miner said several
players played well on defense,
including Zac Pearson, Michael
Watson, Brandon Wise, and
Carlos Eguarte.
Up next for the Eagles was a
trip to Oglethorpe County on
Thursday. This trip turned out
no better than the last, unfortu
nately, as the Patriots emerged
with a 7-1 victory.
Tony Xiong scored East
Jackson’s lone goal from 42
yards out, just over the reach
of the goalie. Miner also said
Pearson played an outstanding
game at defense.
East Jackson next traveled to
Winder to make up tournament
play over the weekend. The
Eagles lost their first match to
North Oconee TO.
“Zac Pearson, Michael Watson,
and Brandon Wise had excep
tional games on defense,’’ Minor
said. “Alex Love and Jon Love
played well all over the field,
and Ricardo Zaragoza gave us
several opportunities on goal.’’
The Eagles’ tournament came
to an end with a 6-1 loss to
Winder-Barrow in the second
game.
“We were short five players in
the second match and that hurt
us both offensively and defen
sively,’’ Minor said. “Ricardo
Zaragoza scored on a perfect
cross from Byron Beauchamp,
which was set up by a great pass
from Alex Love. They played
hard in the second game but just
ran out of gas.’’
East Jackson was scheduled
to play its final home match
against Lakeview Academy on
Tuesday, which was also senior
night. Results of that match were
unavailable at press time.

EJ To Host Dawson Co. April 1
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson Eagles ten
nis teams traveled to Rabun
County last Tuesday to face the
Wildcats. Things didn’t work out
as the team had hoped, however,
as they returned home victims of
a pair of shutouts. The boys were
defeated 5-0, while the girls also
lost 5-0.
Next up was a pairing with
Banks County that saw the boys
come close, but lose 3-2 in the
end. Number three singles play
er John Kesler picked up a win,
as did number one doubles pair
Tony Johnson and Will Carithers.
Meanwhile, the girls lost to the
Lady Leopards 3-0.
Next up was a match with the
Commerce Tigers. Mother nature
got in the way, however, and the
match was rained out. It will not
be rescheduled.
Up next for the Eagles was a
trip to Banks to again face the
Leopards on Tuesday. Results
from that match were unavail
able at press time.
The Eagles will have a little
time off before their next sched
uled match. They’ll host Dawson
County on Tuesday, April 1, at
4 p.m.
