Eagles Take On Fannin Co. Thursday

The East Jackson Eagle girls’
and boys’ tennis teams both lost
to Banks County last week on
the road.
The girls were shut out 5-0,
while the boys fell 4-1. Number
three singles player John Kesler
won the Eagles’ lone match.
Next up for East Jackson was
EJCHS Boys Soccer
a home match with Dawson
County on Tuesday. Results of
that match were unavailable at
press time.
Coach Jimmy Williams says
both his teams could possibly
rise to the occasion.
“The girls lost 5-0 to them last
time,’’ Williams said. “The girls
are getting better but I am not
sure they can defeat Dawson. The
boys lost 3-2. They have a legiti
mate shot. But both boys and
girls will have to play their best
tennis for us to have a chance.’’
Up next for the Eagles will
be a trip to Fannin County on
Thursday for a 4 p.m. match. In
their last meeting, Fannin bested
both the boys and the girls 5-0.
Eagles Travel To Jackson Co. Thursday
By Brandon Reed
The first win for the East Jackson Eagles’ boys
soccer team continues to elude them, as the boys
lost a close game to Lakeview 2-1 last Tuesday.
Ricardo Zaragoza scored for East Jackson in
the first ten minutes of the match, but Lakeview
came back to tie the game, then scored another
goal before holding off the Eagles for the win.
“We started the game playing very good defense
and passing the ball well on offense,’’ said coach
Matt Miner. “Soon after the goal was scored we
stopped marking on defense and stopped mak
ing runs to create space offensively.’’
The boys were scheduled to face Eastside on
Tuesday. Results of that match were unavailable
by press time.
The Eagles will travel to Jefferson to face the
Jackson County Panthers at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Last time, the Panthers won a close 3-2 match.
“Jackson County and East Jackson match up
well in their experience and abilities,’’ Miner
said. “We had a close game the last time we
played and hopefully this game will also be a
good one.’’

Lady Eagles Win Over Hart Co.
East Jackson To Face Panthers On Thursday

match. Cozzens scored the fourth and final goal in the Lady
Eagles’ win against Hart County.
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson Lady Eagles
soccer team suffered a close
loss to Lakeview, then picked
up a win against Hart County’s
JV team on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles hosted
Lakeview Academy in their
final home appearance of the
season. Both teams scored
early in the first half, with the
Lady Eagles’ goal coming from
forward Dakota Chandler with
an assist by Larissa Cozzens.
Going into halftime, the score
was tied at 1-1.
In the second half, East
Jackson’s defense stayed
aggressive, and prevented
Lakeview from scoring. Keeper
Larisa Cozzens and sweeper
Sarah Daftarian saved several
attempts on the Lady Eagles
goal, and at the end of the sec
ond half, the score remained
tied.
Then came two five-minute
overtimes, after which the
score was still tied. The final
score was determined on pen
alty kicks, with Lakeview scor
ing one kick for the win.
Next up was a road trip
to Hart County to face the
Bulldogs. East Jackson came
out strong in the first half.
Kassie Mull scored the Lady
Eagles’ first goal of the game.
Larisa Cozzens, switching from
her usual position as keeper to
midfield, helped to score the
second goal. A penalty kick late
in the first half by Kassie Mull
put East Jackson up 3-0.
Ten minutes into the second
half, Hart County finally got
on the board to make the score
3-1. But the Eagle defense kept
the Bulldogs at bay the rest of
the game and Aubrey Cozzens
scored the fourth goal for the
Lady Eagles, who won 4-1.
Up next for East Jackson
is a trip to Jackson County
on Thursday to face the Lady
Panthers.
“The Lady Eagles are excited
to play their old teammates,’’
said coach Emily Gunderson.
“We look forward to both a fun
and competitive game. I wish
the Lady Panthers luck and
hope our Lady Eagles bring
home the win.’’

match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
