Earn Superior Ratings
The EJMS Eagle Jazz Band received a Superior Rating from
all three music judges at the April 24 District Jazz Performance
Evaluation, hosted by Jackson County Comprehensive High
School. “Professional music judges rate the bands in all areas of
their musical performance,” stated Band Director David Van Buren.
“Superior is the highest rating a band can achieve.” Left to right

Selected For Jazz Clinic
Nine East Jackson Middle School band students were recently
selected to participate in the second annual Georgia Middle School
State Jazz Clinic on the campus of North Georgia College and State
University, Dahlonega. The EJMS students performed along with
jazz band students from across Georgia in an event organized by
the Georgia Association of Jazz Educators (GAJE). Left to right are
(front) Tyler Lee (tenor saxophone), Gabriel Pierce (trumpet), Cole
Martin (trumpet), Sam Derochers (percussion), (back) Stephen
Bramblett (tenor saxophone), Amelia McDonald (alto saxophone),
Jonah Craymer (trumpet), Steven LaRose (alto saxophone), and
Nathan Graves (trombone). David Van Buren is the band director.
East Jackson Bands Excel At Ensemble Festival
A number of East Jackson
Comprehensive High School and
East Jackson Middle School band
students won accolades at the
District Solo and Ensemble Festival
held last Saturday at Jackson County
Comprehensive High School.

The Eagle high school band
members earned superior and
excellent ratings under the direc
tion of Jeffrey Rowser.
Billy Whitmire and Luke
Derochers were rated “excellent”
in the alto sax duet; Amber Adams
and Emily Cown earned “supe
rior” designation in the flute duet,
as did Cown and Sara June Gray.
Michael LaRose, Justin Smith, Luke
Derochers and Michael Wallace
were declared “superior” as a
saxophone quartet, and Michael
LaRose earned the “superior” rat
ing in tenor sax solo.

“superior” ratings for his saxo
phone play, and Nicholas Whitmire
won two “superior” ratings with his
trombone. Those earning “supe
rior” ratings also included Jonah
Craymer, trumpet; Meghan Foley,
clarinet; Stephanie Senter, marim
ba; Parker Craven, Euphonium;
Cole Martin, French horn; and
Nathan Graves, trombone.

Have A Feast
To celebrate reading “The Magic Treehouse Knight Before
Dawn,” a group of students in Mandy McEntyre and Jamie
Allen’s first grade class at Commerce Primary School hosted
a Medieval feast for their classmates. The students planned the
food, costumes and entertainment. The hosts of the feast were,
left to right, (front) Conner Nash, Maggie Hill, Kaiya Henson,
(back row) Sean Mullis, J Horton and Cade Tootle.

A Message From The President
Kindergarten students in Cynthia Gregg and Beth McWilliams’
kindergarten class at Commerce Primary School were surprised
to receive a letter and picture of President George Bush and First
Lady Laura Bush in response to letters the students wrote to
Bush during President’s Week. The president thanked each “young
American” for writing to him and encouraged them to learn some
thing new each day.

9 From KBMS Named
To District Honors Band
Nine sixth grade band students at Kings Bridge Middle School
were named to the Georgia Music Educators Association District 13
Beginning Honor Band.
They will perform Saturday at 4 p.m. at Carver Middle School in
Monroe. The free concert is open to the public.
The students are Truett Walden, trombone; Dillan Evans, French
horn; Angela Hulsey, flute; Cheyenne Stratzer, clarinet; Holly Wright,
trumpet; Hayleigh Smith, trumpet; Taylor Brittain, clarinet; Tong Poh
Her, tenor saxophone; and Andrew Taylor, baritone.
Caroline Black Wins Scholarship
Caroline K. Black of Commerce was awarded a $1,500 scholarship
at the recent Honors Day ceremony at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural
College.
The award, from the ABAC Foundation, was based on a number of
criteria, such as leadership ability, character, academic excellence and
financial need.
Black is an agriculture transfer major.

the winners of the Jackson County Community Outreach Essay
