of Commerce, died Thursday,
May 8, 2008, at BJC Hospital in
Commerce.
She was the daughter of the late
Lewis Hooten and Lola Lowler
Scoggins.
Survivors include a son, David

Denton, Elberton, David Denton,
Athens; daughters, Betty Aaron,
Jefferson, Linda Casper, Colbert,
Janis Bowles, Commerce; 26
grandchildren; 49 great-grand
children; and six great-great-
grandchildren.

Frances Turner
Lrances Belle Turner, 82, of
Gillsville, died Saturday, May 10,
2008.
A native of Banks County, she
was born on September 2, 1925,
the daughter of the late Henry
and Imogene Lewallen. She
was a member of Grove Level
Baptist Church. Mrs. Turner was
preceded in death by her hus
band, John W. Turner; stepdaugh
ter, Charlotte Harris; grandson,
Blake Cochran; and brother, John
Henry Lewallen.
She was a loving wife, mother
and grandmother, according to
loved ones.
Survivors include sons and
daughters-in-law, Jeff and Alisha
Turner and Bill and April Turner;
stepdaughters and sons-in-laws,
Linda and Donald Wilson, Gail
and Calvin Johnson, and Nancy
and Jewell Cochran; a sister,
Joann Kimbrell; a brother, Lelton
Lewallen; grandchildren, Tracey
Cochran Thompson, Ginger
Wall, Shelley Blackwell, Russell
Johnson, Casey Turner, Blaze
Turner, Logan Nix and Cody Nix;
and four great-grandchildren.

Monday, May 12, in the chapel

Burial was at the Hickory Elat
Methodist Church cemetery.

'Mildred' Hamilton
Carrie “Mildred” Hamilton, 74,
of Winder, died Thursday, May
8, 2008.
Born in Henderson, Tenn., she
was the daughter of the late Lrank
G. and Margaret Bright Hardy and
was a member of Hope Baptist
Church. Mrs. Hamilton was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
Lred G. Hamilton, Jr.
Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law, Tom and Lynne
Hamilton, Winder; daughter and
son-in-law, Linda and Clint Albea,
Washington; grandchildren,
Corrie Hamilton, Jacob Hamilton
and Jenna Grimaud; great-grand
child, Kaylee Grimaud; brothers,
Charlie Hardy, Commerce, and
Joe Hardy, Jefferson.

Saturday, May 10, at Lirst Baptist
Church with Dr. John Talley offi
ciating. Burial was in Rose Hill
Cemetery.

James Spivey
James Clifford Spivey, 65, of
Braselton, died Lriday, May 9,
2008.
A native of Gwinnett County,
he spent most of his life in the
Gainesville area, and was the son
of the late James and Jesse Mae
Chronic Spivey. He was a mem
ber of Mercy’s Call Lellowship
Church and was retired from the
City of Gainesville after 27 years
of service. Mr. Spivey was pre
ceded in death by a son, William
J. Spivey; and a sister, Lrances
Spivey.
Survivors include his wife,
Brenda Hulsey Spivey, Braselton;
sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev.
Lranklin J. Spivey and Donna
Spivey, Talmo, Eric R. Spivey,
Braselton, Jody M. and Amanda
Spivey, Commerce; grandchil

J.D. Pritchett
J.D. Pritchett, 83, of Lula, died
Lriday, May 9, 2008, at an assist
ed living home.
He was born on July 24,1924, in
Banks County, the son of the late
Will L. and Callie Nunn Pritchett.
He was a member of Mt. Carmel
Baptist Church, where he was
a deacon and Sunday School
Superintendent for a number of
years. He was in the C.C.C. Camp
and was a retired employee of
Milliken with 47 years of service.
Mr. Pritchett was preceded in
death by his wife, Annie Sue
Williams Pritchett.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Carolyn and
Wayne Murray and Wanda and
Phil Parks, both of Lula; sisters,
Estelle Whitfield and Rosa Lee
Parker, Gainesville; grandchil
dren and spouses, Chad and Lisa
Parks, Chanda and Jeff Banks,
Casey and Amanda Murray;
great-grandchildren, Madison
Parks, Jake Parks, Riley Banks
and Ryan Banks.

Ruth Hardin, 73, of Bogart, died

A native of Jackson County,
she was the daughter of the
late Harvey Jackson and Alma
Ophelia Stephens Dailey.

Charles Garrison
Charles Calvin Garrison, 68, of
Cornelia, died Monday, May 12,
2008, in a private care facility.
He was born on August 27,
1939, in Habersham County, the
son of the late Vandiver and Sula
Adderholdt Garrison. He was a
member of Level Grove Baptist
Church and was retired from
Habersham Broom Company
with several years of service.
Survivors include sisters,
Eva Mae Thomas, Alto, Louise
Robinett, Versailles, Mo.; brother,
Emory Garrison, Cornelia.

Wednesday, May 14, at Whitfield
Luneral Home with the Revs.

Melvin Collins
Melvin Jesse Collins, 85, of
Gainesville, died Saturday, May
10, 2008, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville,
following an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Hall
County, he was the
son of the late Lam
and Ida Winters
Collins. He was
Baptist and was a retired mechan
ic with Crains Auto Service. He
was a veteran, having served in
the United States Army during
World War II. Mr. Collins was
preceded in death by a brother,
George Collins; and sisters, Lizzie
Mae Smallwood and Annie Lou
Smith.
Survivors include his wife,
Betty Benton Collins, Gainesville;
daughter, VirginiaBell,Gainesville;
son, Steve Collins, Dawsonville;
step-daughters and son-in-law,
Aletha Lance and Sherry and
Tim Allison, all of Gainesville;
step-sons and daughters-in-law,
Jimmy and Donna Dyer, Billy
and Jean Dyer, and David and

15 grandchildren; 21 great-grand

Maliece Martin Lord, 79, of
Elberton, died Wednesday, May
7, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, she
was the daughter of the late Steve
and Vista Ingram Martin. She
was a member of the Dewy Rose
Baptist Church and was retired
from Oxford Industries.
Survivors include a daughter,
Jennifer Vaughn, Bowersville;
sons, James Lord, Elberton, and
Steve Lord, Danielsville; eight
grandchildren; and seven great
grandchildren.

Chapel of Berry Luneral Home

ing. Burial was in the Grey Hills
Cemetery in Commerce.

Laura Bell Shumake, 80, of

She was born
in Jackson

Shumake. She
was a homemaker and a mem
ber of Academy Baptist Church.
Ms. Shumake was preceded in
death by brothers, Jack Shumake,
Clarence Shumake and Douglas
Shumake Sr.
Survivors include brothers
and sister-in-law, L. Nelson and
Christa Shumake and Ned and
Brenda Shumake, all of Jefferson,
Danny and Nancy Shumake,
Monroe; and many nieces and
nephews.

Terry Allen
Terry William Allen, 57, of
Augusta, died Tuesday, May 6,
2008, at the Medical College of
Georgia.
Born in Commerce, He was a
resident of Gracewood Nursing
Lacility and was the son of Myra
Patterson Smith of Hull and the
late William Ralph Allen. Mr.
Allen was preceded in death
by his step-father, Lonnie Lee
Woods Sr.; step-brothers, Mylon
Woods and Lonnie Lee Woods
Jr.; and step-sister, Ann Hill.
Survivors in addition to his
mother, include sisters, Colette
Woods, Hull, Lisa Chandler,
Danielsville; step-brother, Mike
Woods, Colbert; step-sister, Linda
Cartildge, Commerce; and all of
his Gracewood family.

Jenny Allen, 58, of Hull, died
Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, she
was the daughter of Helen Brock
of Hoschton and the late Edward
Thomas Harbin and was a home
maker. Mrs. Allen was preceded
in death by sisters, Joyce Wheeler
and Rita Patterson.
Survivors in addition to her
mother, include a daughter and
son-in-law, Tammy and Sammy
Gregory, Winder; daughters,
Jennifer Crowe and Helen Allen,
both of Winder, and Molly Allen,
Hull; eight grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; brother, Robert

Myrtie Bell Gee Williams, 95,
died Monday, May 5, 2008, fol
lowing a period of declining
health.
She was born on January 16,
1913, in Jackson County, the
daughter of the late Jack and
Callie Gee. She had lived in Hall
County for many years. Mrs.
Williams was preceded in death
by her husband, H. Jackson
Williams; and all of her siblings.
Survivors include daugh
ters and sons-in-law, Callie and

Gainesville; son and daughter-in-

Wilma Hix Williamson, 93, of
Commerce, died Tuesday, May
13, 2008, at Athens Regional
Medical Center in Athens.
She was born in Madison
County, the daughter of the late
Luther and Pearl Bolton Hix. She
was a member of Berea Baptist
Church and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Williamson was preceded in
death by her husband, Lawrence
Williamson.
