Woman Escapes Injury In
Downtown Carjacking Friday
A Commerce woman escaped
without injury after two men car
jacked her vehicle Friday after
noon in the middle of downtown
Commerce.
The 58-year-old white female
told police she’d just come out
of the First Commerce Bank
drive-through, turned up Central
Avenue and stopped at the red
light at Broad and Elm streets
when a black male approached
her vehicle and pointed a pistol
at her.
“You’re gonna take us to
Athens,’’ he declared.
One subject sat in the passen
ger seat with a pistol in his lap
pointed at the victim; another,
also a black male, entered the
back seat and pressed something
against the victim’s head.
The woman said she drove 75
miles per hour most of the way to
Athens, hoping to attract a police
officer. The men directed her to
turn onto the Hwy. 10 Loop and
had her exit at North Avenue.
At the intersection of North
Avenue and Old Hull Road, the
two men jumped out of the vehi
cle and ran down Old Hull Road,
the woman said.
She ran into a beauty salon and
had staff call 911.
“We are pursuing a number of
leads,’’ commented Police Chief
John Gaissert. “We hope to have
a composite drawing soon.’’
The report said the victim was
able to give a good description
of one of the assailants, who
was described as six feet tall
and weighing approximately 200
pounds.
Woman Claims Harassment From Rapist
A report of harassing calls to
a Shankle Heights woman has
turned into a rape investigation.
According to the report on
file at the Commerce Police
Department, the 27-year-old white
female victim said a man has been
calling her six to seven times a
day threatening her.
She further told the police that
she had stayed with the man and
his wife in Manchester, and while
there, the man had raped her and
stolen things from her.
The police turned the investiga
tion over to the Manchester Police
Department, the report indicated.
Other Incidents
Police also investigated the fol
lowing incidents last week:
• a shoplifting attempt at
Fred’s, South Elm Street, where
the manager told police that two
black males loaded a shopping
cart with seven boxes of laundry
DID YOU KNOW?
By Preacher Clint
DID YOU KNOW THAT
JESUS PAID FOR YOUR
SINS WHEN HE DIED ON
THE CROSS? “All have sinned
and come short of GOD’S glory.”
(Rom. 3:23) Since all are sinners
and GOD’S word says “the soul that
sins shall surely die”. Our sins must
be paid for and JESUS the sinless
SON of GOD paid for our sins with
HIS own blood at Calvary. Just as
Barabbas was set free and JESUS
was crucified so you and I have
been set free by HIS death. “HE
that knew no sin became sin for us
that we might be made the
righteousness of GOD in HIM.”
(2nd Cor. 5:21) When we by faith
accept HIM as our SAVIOR, GOD
the FATHER accepts us as a son.
(Eph. 1:6)
WILL YOU ACCEPT JESUS TODAY?

value of about $250, and tried to
push it out the door without pay

leaving the cart behind, when the
manager confronted them. She
told police that she believes the
suspects are the same men who
pulled a similar stunt at the Fred’s

•battery at a Baugh Street resi

mouth after he asked that a visitor
to his next door neighbor turn
down the music when he comes

not want to prosecute, that he
would “handle it himself.’’
• a domestic dispute at a Cedar
Drive Extension residence in
which a 25-year-old black female
told police that “Charlie Joe’’
chased her and her 8-year-old
son around with a stick and a
hammer after she questioned him
about spanking the boy. The sus
pect denied chasing them around
and said the woman is a “trouble
maker’’ who “hangs around with
people who do drugs.’’
•theft of gasoline at Fuel Mart,
Maysville Road, where the clerk
said a white female attempted to
pay for $20.40 in gasoline with
a bad check. She and the white

got a tag number. Police said the
tag returned to a Banks County
resident of Trout Lane.
JULY 4th...As Americans
celebrate, we do so under the
shadow of war. On September 11,
2001, “a day that will go down in
infamy", we declared war on
"terrorism." The U. S. now leads a
world-wide “coalition of the just" to
do battle against this sinister and
deadly enemy.
Children and young people in
America also face a sinister enemy
in the form of ungodliness that has
been unleashed upon our youth.
