Fight At Game Leads To 2 Arrests
Where’s the school
resource officer when you
need him?
Commerce Superinten
dent of Schools James E.
“Mac” McCoy had to break
up a fight between two
women in the stands that
may have been the most
competitive part of the
Commerce-Jefferson foot
ball game Friday night.
The incident occurred at
halftime as Commerce was
in the dressing room talking
about how to get back into a
game (it trailed 21-0).
According to an inci
dent report, April Michelle
Bower, 19, of 123 Glencrest
Drive, Commerce, was
standing at the fence on
about the 50-yard line
watching the halftime show.
Tara Evon Lord, 36, of 218
Heritage Hills Drive, Apt.
218, Commerce, was in the
stands, trying to see the
same performance, the
view of which was blocked
by Lord.
Bower allegedly demanded
that Lord sit down. The two
exchanged unpleasantries,
after which Lord allegedly
punched Bower in the face.
“I had flashbacks from my
days as a high school princi
pal,” said McCoy, who rushed
in to separate the two.
Both were charged with
disorderly conduct.
In non-sports-related
arrests, the Commerce
Police Department
announced the following
arrests:
•Kimberly Faith Pierce,
35, 180 Cross Street,
Maysville, driving under the
influence (DUI) of drugs.
The charges were filed after
she drove her vehicle into
a ditch on State Street.
The officers investigating
the scene reported that
she demonstrated slurred
speech, had bloodshot eyes
and was unsteady on her
feet. They also said she’d
been eating a chocolate bar
at the time of her arrest. The
officers determined that she
had consumed Ambien,
Soma, Xanax, Oxycodone
and two other medications
the night before.
•Chris Johnny Faulkner,
26, 5899 Maysville Road,
Commerce, on a warrant for
Athens-Clarke. Police made
the arrest after they investi
gated a harassment report
in which a 78-year-old white
female complained that
Faulkner repeatedly beat on
her door and ran off.
•John Roy Skinner, 46,
175 Hillside Way, Maysville,
DUI and failure to use a
turn signal. It was the lat
ter charge which caused
the officer to pull him over,
whereupon the officer
noted the odor of alcohol.
Skinner, who said he was
looking for someone he
knew when he was in pris
on, told the officer he’d had
five beers some time earlier
in the day.
• Larry Patrick Clark,
45, 630 Wrights Mill Road,
Commerce, arrested on
an unspecified Commerce
warrant after his vehicle
was pulled over for a tag
violation.
•Kenneth Edward Allen,
46, Macedonia Church
Road, Danielsville, on a
probation violation ordi
nance. Police came upon
Allen while investigating
an incident at Willoughby
Homes where Allen alleg
edly asked a woman for
three eggs, threatened to
call the police if she did
not give them to him, then
threw the eggs at an apart
ment. He was found laying
on the floor of a closet in
his mother’s apartment in
his boxer shorts, according
to the incident report. In
addition to the arrest on the
warrant, Allen was banned
from the premises for 12
months.

Nicholson Man Faces Child
Molestation Charges In Gwinnett
A Nicholson man has been charged with felony child
molestation in Gwinnett County.
Gwinnett police say Jason Deedale Pressley, 28,
exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl in the Duncan Lake
subdivision in Buford.
A man told an officer Aug. 21 that his granddaughter
was approached by a white male suspect that exposed
himself to her, police said.
The girl provided a very detailed description of the
male and also gave a very detailed description of the sus
pect’s vehicle to police. The officer asked the girl if she
saw the tag number on the car and she said she did not.
On the following day, the same officer was called out
again to the neighborhood because the girl saw the same
suspect following the school bus that she was riding in.
She was able to obtain the tag number and gave that
information to the officer.
The case was assigned to an investigator. The investiga
tor located the suspect, who was identified as Pressley.
After an interview was conducted at police head
quarters, there was sufficient probable cause to charge
Pressley with one count of felony child molestation.
He was transported to the Gwinnett County Detention
Center, where he is currently being held without bond.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING
1728 North Broad Street, Commerce, State Certified 5010 and 2007
Whether it was the effect
of last week’s tornado
or the holiday weekend,
the Commerce Police
Department reported few
crimes over the past week.
Half of the six incidents
were theft cases.
Someone apparently
attempted to steal a 2003
Chevy S-10 pickup from
Wayne Neal Chevrolet,
South Elm Street, but man
aged only to lose a bag of
tools.
According to the report,
the perpetrator forced open
the driver-side door, broke
open the steering column,
drilled out the ignition and
left wires hanging down
from the steering column.
Whether the thief was
scared away or got religion,
he apparently left suddenly,
because he left a bag of
tools that contained two
drills, a wrench, a socket
set, a saw blade and screw
drivers — along with a pair
of rubber gloves.
Other incidents reported
last week include:
•theft of $45 worth of
gasoline from the Flying
J Travel Plaza, Maysville
Road, by someone who left
in a white vehicle toward
Commerce.
•a report of theft by tak
ing at a Highland Estates
residence, for which no
details were provided.
• simple battery in the
parking lot of Ingles, where
a 41-year-old white female
said her stepson’s girlfriend
cursed her, struck her in the
face and dented her hood
with her fists. The 18-year-
old white female alleged
perpetrator told police that
she did, indeed, confront the
woman — after the woman
came “flying by” and acted
like she was going to hit
the 18-year-old and the boy
friend. Both parties admit
ted that they have numerous
“issues” with each other.
• criminal damage to
property at a Preston Court
location where a 30-year-

their 1-year-old son. Police

DID YOU KNOW?
By Preacher Clint
DID YOU KNOW THAT
SALVATION IS BY GOD’S
GRACE THROUGH YOUR
FAITH? (Eph. 2:8) What is grace?
Grace is God giving to us something
that we do not deserve - GOD in His
love gave His SON “JESUS” to be our
sacrifice for sin and in His death He
paid our penalty for sin. (Jn. 3:16)
Grace is GOD’S part in salvation Faith
is your part. Faith begins with
Knowledge; Knowledge is knowing
the truth that JESUS died for your
sins. The next step in Faith is
Believing; You must believe that JESUS
died for your sins. The last step is to
rest in the fact that JESUS paid our sin
debt in full. (Rom. 3:24) If you have
accepted the finished work of the
cross, Your salvation is secure in
“JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.”

FALL SPORTS...I took a little
■3 ° If
walk after school the other day to
take a look at Fall sports practice.
I was a little bit shocked. It looked
like no one in the Middle School
or High School had gone home.
My eyes beheld Varsity and
Middle School football teams,
boys and girls Varsity and Middle
School cross-country team,s girls
fast pitch softball, Middle School
and Varsity Volleyball (in the
gym), and cheerleading.
I’m so glad we can offer all of
these activities, and all of them
well-coached.
You have a special invitation to
