Womack led the Tigers
in rushing, going 73 yards
on six attempts, includ
ing one touchdown; Jon
Cash gained 56 yards on
eight attempts; Orsborne
had 46 yards on one carry,
scoring one touchdown,
and Colton Brown gained
19 yards on five snaps.
Edwards threw the ball
only once, producing the
80-yard touchdown play to
Womack. He rushed for 37
yards on 11 attempts, scor
ing two touchdowns.
In all, Commerce rushed
for 228 yards on 34
attempts, a 6.7 percent
average. The Tigers had
308 total offensive yards
on 35 plays, an 8.8 per
cent average. Commerce
was penalized five times
for 44 yards.
The Tiger defense sacked
Morgan County’s quarter
back three times. Josh
Streetman led the defense
with 14 tackles, 10 of which
were solo.

East Jackson Plays Host For Open Meet

the Northeast Georgia
Cross Country meet, the
East Jackson Eagle cross
country teams will try to
repeat that performance
on their home turf.
The Eagles were sched
uled to host several area
teams at an open meet on
Tuesday. Results of that
meet were unavailable at
press time. Check www.
mainstreetnewssports.
com for updates through
out the week.
That meet will serve as
a lead-in to the Eagle Run
Invitational, scheduled
for Sept. 20 at EJCHS.
The Eagles will then take
part in the Patriot Invite
on Sept. 27 at Lexington,
and then move on to the
Banks County Open Meet
in Homer on Sept. 30.

Stinchcomb, Wilkes, Bekah Andrews,

Stinchcomb surrendered four hits

The Lady Tigers stand at 2-0 in region
play, and 4-9 overall going into Tuesday’s
game at Prince Avenue.

The Commerce Tiger
Cross Country team
opened up its 2008 sea
son this week. The team
was scheduled to take part
in an open meet at East
Jackson Comprehensive
High School.
Results of that meet
were unavailable at press
time. Check www.main-

updates throughout the
week.
Coach Mark Hale said
last month that his top run
ners for the boys had been
sophomores Ethan Thomas
and Zach Scannell, as well
as, junior Juan Toribio.
He said senior Hannah
Duckett had been one of
the top runners for the girls
in practice.
Next up for the Tigers is a
trip to Rabun Gap on Sept.
16, followed by a meet at
Banks County on Sept. 23
and Athens Academy on
Oct. 2.
On Oct. 7, Commerce will
take part in the Mountain
Invitational, and then move
back to Banks County on
Oct. 16. The Tigers will wrap
up their regular season with
the MainStreet Invitational
in Jefferson on Oct. 21.
The Region Meet is sched
uled for Oct. 30 at Athens
Academy. The Cross
Country season will wrap
on up Nov. 8 with the State
Meet in Carrollton.
