Nicholson
Approves
3 Ordinances
By Chris Bridges
Nicholson officials
approved three ordinanc
es Monday, including an
open records policy.
No discussion was held
on the ordinances which
dealt with open records
policy, rules and proce
dures for city council
public hearings and ordi
nances regulating streets
and sidewalks.
City Attorney Rob
Russell previously stated
the open records policy
means Nicholson is essen
tially adopting the state’s
open record policy.
The ordinance dealing
with city streets and side
walks means anyone work
ing in the right of way will
have to be permitted by
Nicholson officials.
The ordinance on the
city council and public
hearings outlines how the
council meets and estab
lishes the procedures the
council follows during
meetings.
Also during Monday’s
meeting, the council held
the first reading for three
new ordinances.
The first deals with
construction site cleanli
ness standards. This ordi
nance requires all litter to
be picked up each day
at construction locations
and for building sites
to have tarps placed on
them. Code enforcement
officials will ensure a
waste container will be
put out at the location.
A second ordinance
deals with using trees and/
or shrubbery as a buffer
along construction sites
when they border farms.
Russell said this is a way
to help keep Nicholson
“green.’’
The third ordinance
deals with stream buffer
protection and will allow
the city to monitor storm
water runoff.
